“The Syndicate agrees that Camilla is the best option to take her father’s place,” Crew says from beside me, and I turn to him slowly, keeping my face blank as I meet his gaze.

“Then it’s settled.” I stand from my seat and lean my palms on the table. I take the time to glance at each of the leaders and their heirs. One of the most important lessons I ever learned from my father was to always make eye contact, and I take that lesson seriously as I stare each one of them down. “I look forward to working with you all.”

I slip out of my chair and begin walking toward the exit. “Oh, and Charles?” I peer over my shoulder with an eyebrow cocked. “The next time you put your hands on me without my permission, I’ll cut them off.”

Without another backward glance, I move into the lobby and breeze past all the security. Now that I’ve taken my legacy back, there’s one more thing I need to do.

CHAPTER THIRTY-ONE

KOVU

I’ve been hard as a fucking rock from the moment Camilla walked into the room looking every bit the queen she is. The perfect woman for us. The only woman who could possibly hold all four of us by our balls the way she does. Even Kaos has softened toward her, much to his own dismay.

Bishop slips into the seat she vacated, and I force myself to remain in place instead of following her. She’s under strict instructions to wait in the car while we finish up the meeting, but knowing her like I do, I won’t be surprised if she’s not where she’s supposed to be.

Kaos and I take our positions behind Crew and Bishop, showing a united front as we always do. The assholes at this table may think Kaos and I are nothing more than the muscle, but that narrative works in our favor more often than not.

“You can’t just take over my meeting,” Davenport growls, his fists clenched on top of the table.

Crew leans forward on his elbows. “The bylaws are in place for a reason, Charles, and if you can’t respect them, I will be forced to have you removed from your position as the head of your family.”

“You can’t do that,” he says incredulously, looking around the table for someone to back him up.

“Oh, but we can,” Bishop replies, his tone cool and disconnected in the way it always is during these meetings. “You’ve violated the bylaws so many times at this point that we have grounds to remove you from your position. Even after us telling you repeatedly that your claim on Camilla De Marco was no longer viable, you ignored us. And on top of that, you kidnapped not just Miss De Marco but also me and Kaos when you didn’t get your way.”

Davenport is lost for words, and I’d be lying if I denied finding this entire situation amusing. Usually, I fucking hate these meetings. It’s just the leaders winging and bitching about their businesses and how this person or that person has fucked them over, and us listening to it because that’s part of our side of the contract. But today is the most fun I’ve ever had. Maybe now that my little lamb will be a part of them, I’ll be more amused.

“One more misstep, Charles, and you’re out.” Crew stands, buttoning his pristine suit jacket in a practiced move that exudes power. “Don’t test us, because I promise you won’t like the consequences.”

Bishop follows suit, and Kaos and I step back to give them room to lead the way out of the room. We’re already so bulky a bulletproof vest isn’t going to be obvious under our suits, which is why we always tail them out of these kinds of meetings.

“What about the fact you’ve taken Camilla for yourself?” Davenport stammers out before we reach the door, and my hackles rise. I don’t fucking like her name in his mouth, and if he keeps it up, I might have no other choice but to cut his tongue from his vile mouth.

“There’s nothing in the bylaws that prevents the Legion from having relationships with any member of the five families.” Bishop shrugs as he disappears out the door, and I throw a smirk over my shoulder at Davenport.

This isn’t over.

He knows it as well as we do that he’s not going to take this lying down. But we’re ready for him and whatever plans he’s going to cook up to overthrow us.

We each make our way out to the curb where our cars should have been pulled around by now, but find only Kaos’s matte black SUV idling at the curb.

“Where’s the Lamborghini?” I ask Bishop as he looks up and down the street with his brows furrowed.

“Looks like your little lamb took it for a joy ride.”

I chuckle and shake my head. At least we know life will never be boring with Camilla De Marco in it.

CHAPTER THIRTY-TWO

CAMILLA

The feel of the expensive sports car thrumming beneath me is intoxicating as I speed through the streets of New York.

I know I’m not going to be pulled over because I’m in one of their cars, and the police know better than to fuck with the Legion, so I push the accelerator a little harder and turn toward the bridge that will take me home.

Or at least what used to be my home.

Strangely enough, now that I think back on it, I don’t think anywhere has felt more like home than the compound does, but I think that may have more to do with the men who monopolize my every waking thought than the accommodations themselves.
