Chapter Sixty-Six
Excitement momentarily abates my exhaustion, and I hold up the orb to the other inscriptions. The next statue reads Queen Marianne, and the stone woman has a baby dragon in her hand. The third reads Queen Carla, and she holds a skull. The fourth reads Queen Luliana, and she holds a stone globe in that looked like the moon. The last reads Queen Selene, and she has a globe in her hand as well, but with spikes all around it, like the sun.
Suddenly, the events of the day catch up with me, and I cannot stay awake any longer. I head back to the door and curl up against it, my eyes shutting out the world.
I wake later, my sense of time completely destroyed in this dark chamber. Using my magic, I form another light orb. I throw it into the center of the room, willing it to stay there. I stand up, sipping my water, and walk closer to the statues. I reach out and touch the seashell Queen Allura is holding. A rumbling sound fills the air, and I squat and cover my ears until it stops. It doesn’t take long, and once it does, I glance up at the ceiling and gasp. It is now covered in words, as is each wall next to the statues and floor.
The words on the ceiling glisten and glow, and I read them aloud first.
Five hundred
Years filled with gloom
But one by one
Our magic blooms
The words darken, and I turn around and look at the statues, finding the next verse. The words next to Queen Selene glow first, and I read them.
One queen
To rule the night
And walk in day
Next to Queen Luliana:
One queen
To rule the land
And heal its wounds
Next to Queen Carla:
One queen
To rule below
And free the souls
Next to Queen Marianne:
One queen
To rule the air
And calm the storms
Next to Queen Allura:
One queen
To rule the sea
And rouse the waves
The words fade, and the inscription under my feet lights up and glows.
