“Yes. We are free,” I say. She disappears, and I put the mirror back and grin. Raúl looks at me questioningly, but I simply wrap my arms around him.

He hugs me back. “I’m glad you didn’t die.”

“Technically, I think I did,” I say with a laugh. I bare my fangs. “I didn’t stay dead, though.”

Raúl bursts into laughter, leaning forward and kissing me with unbridled passion. Not wanting to waste any time, I start peeling off his armor. He draws back slightly as I rip off his clothes, the adrenaline from the battle still running through my veins. I grin, my fangs protruding slightly, and start pushing him to the bathtub. “Now or never, husband-of-mine?”

“Now, wife-of-mine. Now and forever.”

Epilogue

Gathering my skirts, I make my way down the moss-encrusted stairs. I open the door to the dungeon, magicked to accept only my touch. I walk past empty cell after empty cell to the very last one.

I open the gate, and chains clatter. “No, please, not again,” she says.

“What was that, Airalin?” I say sweetly. “You are tired of being trapped?”

“Yes, please. Have mercy.”

I crouch in front of her, putting my hand on her chin. She whimpers, opening her eyes. Her right one is milky white, just like Raúl’s. “Like you had mercy on me as a child? Done.”

My fangs lengthen, and I lean forward, biting her neck. She no longer fights back. I drain her until she is barely alive, feeling her power course through me. Delicious. I bite my wrist to draw blood and let a single drop slide down her throat. Just enough to keep her from dying.

I stand and leave the cell, confident the special manacles will keep her magic silenced.

I lock the cell door, and she stares at me with half-opened eyes. “How long, Rapunzel? How long will you keep me here?”

I grin, my fangs descending once more. “For eternity, Airalin. For eternity.”

I sweep my skirts up, heading back upstairs, her cries of agony following me.

Epilogue 2

Fifteen men sit around a table, each wearing robes of different colors. “One has awakened,” says a man wearing a blue robe. A water mage.

“The others will follow soon,” says the fire mage, his red robe tight around his girth.

“What must we do to stop them?” says an earth mage in green.

A weather mage in white sits back in his chair. He faces the others from his spot at the head of the table. “We will find them all before they awaken. Destroy them. Before it is too late.”

He hands out commands, assigning parts of the realm to each male.

I grin at their hubris, watching through the eyes of my spiders.

“Nava.”

Yes.

“Can you search for the other future queens?”

Yes.

“Good. We must find them first. We have work to do.”
