I can’t imagine the thoughts going through her head right now, but she seems like she’s in some kind of shock. I don’t blame her. All her hard work brought down in one senseless act.

“Thank you for checking the building was safe, but you don’t need to stick around. I’m sure you have things to do.”

I do. I have a stack of invoices to file, but right now, I don’t care about that. What I care about is the woman standing in front of me, barely keeping it together.

“Nia… let me help you.”

She waves me off. “Really, I can manage.”

“I know you can, but let me help.”

Her bottom lip wobbles slightly. “Who could have done this? And why?”

I hate to think it, but there’s only one suspect who comes to mind—her ex, Thomas.
