“Now,” I go on, my face hardening. “Are you goin’ to tell me why you were hangin’ out with your ex fuckin’ boyfriend?”

“Jealous?” she throws at me, grinning.

“Baby, I would be more jealous of the leaf clingin’ to your hair right now.”

I reach forward, flicking a leaf out of her hair as she scrunches up her nose, trying to fight back her rage.

“Fuck you, Cade. I’m the one who is meant to be angry right now.”

“Be angry, sugar, but do not dig into things that are best left buried.”

“I wouldn’t have to if you just told me what I want to know.”

“There ain’t nothin’ to tell,” I growl. “I won’t ask you again, Addison, let it fuckin’ go.”

She steps forward, her sassy nature matching my determination. We’re both as stubborn as each other and she fuckin’ knows it. “Are you telling me that you’re not even a little curious about what could have happened to her?”

“She made her choice,” I growl. “I made mine.”

“What makes you so sure she got a choice?”

She’s pushing me, because she thinks that Clara got sold and is somewhere in danger, but I think she’s out there running with the fucked up crowd she chose over her own family, and has no intentions of being found. Either way, I made the choice to move on with my life a long fucking time ago, and I don’t plan on changing it now.

“You don’t know half the fuckin’ story, Addison, so let it go.”

“Then tell me,” she snaps, throwing her hands up. “I shared everything with you, Cade. Every ugly detail. The least you can do is tell me about your sister and why the hell your face goes so dark when I mention her.”

“Clara is fuckin’ dead to me,” I bark. “Leave it alone.”

Addison’s eyes widen, and I know I just made a big fucking mistake.

I just told her the name of my sister.

I just gave her ammunition.

Fuck me.

This is never going to end, is it?

“TAKE YOUR FUCKIN’ DAUGHTER over your knee like you should have done fuckin’ years ago,” I mutter at Jackson as I take a shot of whiskey.

The alcohol isn’t nearly strong enough to cover up the day I’ve had.

Staring across the compound, I see Addison talking to Ciara. She’s leaning in close, whispering, and I know she’s up to no fucking good. She’s testing me, and I’m ready to fucking lose it with her.

“She’s not too old to get a good hidin’.” Spike grins, shooting back a shot. “Only it isn’t her dad who needs to deliver it.”

Tossing a grin in Spike’s direction, I consider his statement. I would give anything right now to throw Addison over my knee and tan her ass, and then I’d spend the rest of the night buried in her, listening to her beg for more. Fuck, I need to get laid. Fucking pronto.

“My daughter is an unstudied species,” Jackson mutters, lighting a cigarette. “Can’t help you there, brother.”

“Well, at the very least, tell her to keep her nose out of this business. Busted her in her old home town today, tryin’ to find information. She went back, but I don’t fuckin’ know why.”

Jackson’s brows go up as he inhales, blowing out the smoke slowly. “She went back there? What the fuck for?”

“Must know someone who can help her,” Spike throws out, rolling a joint. “Only reason you’d go back.”

Of course there would be someone there, but who? Who the fuck would she go to that could help her with this?
