They were weaker wolves than hers.

Interesting.

“You okay?” Minx asked after the door closed behind them.

“Annoyed more than anything.” I laughed.

“For sure. I’m actually glad I caught you. I wanted to tell you that I called my mom and told her about you and that you think we share a father.”

I sucked in a breath. “That must’ve been uncomfortable.”

She nodded. “You know what’s more uncomfortable?” I thought for sure a blow was coming from her, not physical but verbal. “She told me that she wanted to have a long chat with me soon. That she would think about what I told her. Not outright denial and dramatic outrage. No offense taken. No asking me to ream you out for even suggesting such a thing. None of that. She wants to talk to me later.”

I’d brought this to her doorstep and felt bad about it, but the truth was the truth.

Maybe it was time she knew hers.

“That sucks,” I said.

“I also want you to know that I’m not mad at you for doing what you did. What you went through was horrible, and I know you are looking for a lifeline. Some family in this world. What I’m saying is… We can be friends, even though we are maybe, maybe not, sisters.”

We both cracked up. “I’m glad to hear it. As you can see, I’m not making a ton of friends here.”

“Right? I have my mates and my old roommate Stevie. I’ll introduce you two. She’s so much fun.”

“Sounds good. I’ll see you around, okay?”

Minx nodded. “I’ll let you know what my mom says.”

“Thanks, Minx.”

Chapter Thirteen

I tried to study in my room. I truly did. But the scents of my mates or maybe mates wafted under the door and invaded every brain cell I had and seemed to short wire the ones meant for learning and retaining information.

Giving up on getting anything done in my room, I packed up my bag and headed out of the room, determined to get to the library.

“Everything okay?” Wolfe asked, raising his head from the book he was reading. Quickly scanning the title, I saw it was a fantasy novel.

“I can’t concentrate, so I’m going to the library. You like to read?” I asked, nodding my chin at his book.

“I love to read. You?”

Neither Nolan or Lex were in the room. Wolfe and I, so far, had the strongest connection in human form, though the connection between my wolf and Nolan was stronger. He had flirted with me and soothed me. “Me too. Maybe we could read the same book together? Have our own little book club?”

Okay, that sounded naughtier than I meant it to.

“That sounds good. I’m only a few chapters into this one. I could get you a copy.”

Sweet, big, brawny man. I bet there were some afraid of him because of his stature and godlike muscles, but I knew better. He was a teddy bear. A teddy bear who read romantasy novels.

“I can get my own copy, Wolfe. You don’t have to do that.”

He chuckled. “It’s the least I can do. It’s a book. I’ll buy a copy online and have it delivered. In the meantime, if you want to read some, I’m willing to share or read to you.”

A shiver rolled down my spine. I had an image of me, wrapped up in Wolfe’s arms with his deep, velvety voice telling the tale of fairies and romance in my mind and more than anything, I wished it was reality. Pesky school and studying and future.

“That sounds nice. I’ll be back later, okay. Unless you want to come with me?”
