Raven chuckled. “You badass motherfucker, Lou.”

“Shit,” he cursed. “I would’ve had ’em all beat if Bella wasn’t here. I was scared they were gonna hurt her too.”

“Did they?” I asked, my voice strained.

“Just a couple of darts.” Lou cleared his throat and dropped his voice. “She didn’t fight them, Crow.”

What? Why?

“I think she believed she was protecting you and everyone else by sacrificing herself. Damn noble but foolish too.”

“They take anyone else besides her?”

“Not that I saw.” He rubbed the back of his head and shrugged.

“Where’s Falcon?” I hollered.

“Here, pres.” He joined us, ticking his chin at Lou. “I got you, old timer.”

Lou flipped him off.

Yeah, he was fine.

I left Lou as Falon healed his injuries and talked to each member who had been a target of the darts. None could tell me much. It happened fast. Everything had been quiet until they were struck and went down.

There wasn’t shit to learn from this other than Undertaker wanted me to go after my woman. He was forcing a confrontation. To be honest, I never understood why it took so long. This shit should have been sorted when Rook was still president.

It didn’t matter now. I had to free Bella, and I didn’t have time to waste. I’d already lost valuable minutes handling shit here when I really wanted to rush after her and tell everyone else to fuck off and figure it out without me. But that wasn’t an option. I was the president of the club, and I had to do my duty.

I rubbed my tired eyes and headed back inside The Roost. The sight that greeted me sent uneasy vibes down my back: two bloody people, Sadie and Carson, sitting at a table with Callie and Hawk. Across from them, Laurel sat alone.

Well, shit. I didn’t want to deal with either group. I almost left Raven in charge so I could head out, but I decided against it. This gave me the excuse to be abrupt and to the point.

“Laurel,” I greeted her as I stopped in front of her table. Talon, Raven, and my sister approached. Gail’s hand curled around my arm. Fuck. I needed her support right now. That panicky feeling in my chest relaxed just a bit.

“I’m here, Austin.”

I squeezed her hand in response.

“Austin,” Laurel began.

“That’s Crow to you,” I corrected.

She sighed. “Crow. I know this is a shock.”

“It doesn’t matter what this is. I don’t have time for it. Bella’s been taken.”

Laurel rushed to her feet. “By Undertaker?”

What the fuck did she know about it? “Yes.”

“That’s the reason I’m here. To put things right and clear up the past.”

“There isn’t shit to put right. You fucking left when I was seven years old. Walked out of my life and stayed gone.”

“Crow,” she whispered, flinching with my words.

“Don’t give me that innocent act. Do you know what that did to me? How many nights I cried for my fucking mother? Have any idea how hard and confusing that was?”
