I shake my head. “You two distracted me.”

Reid smirks, pulling me up from the floor into his arms. “I bet I know a better way we could be distracted.”

His big palm pushes back a strand of my fallen hair, and his lips slant over mine. He leisurely explores my mouth, sucking on my tongue until I want to climb him. When he pulls away, his mouth is traded for Finn’s. It’s a kiss full of Finn’s always-burning passion, accompanied by his wandering hands. He grabs my ass so low that his fingers brush my pussy. I moan into his mouth, already wet.

“Break is over,” Reid’s husky voice says near my ear.

Finn pulls away with a curse, adjusting his jeans. “Tease.”

“What?” I’m dizzy with wanting, blinking at the two of them.

“Packing,” Reid says with amusement, way too relaxed for how hot I’m feeling. “This room is done. There should be only your room left.”

My body is wound up tight, but I know he’s right. We only have a few hours before we need to get the kids, and I want to be done. I don’t have that much stuff; it’s only what I brought from Delux when I moved. The furniture belongs with the rental. But still, they have a whole host of people planning to help us move tomorrow, so I had better be ready. “Ugh. I guess we should be responsible.”

Reid steals another quick kiss. “Later, I promise. I’ll get what I can of the kids’ stuff into the back of the truck. You two finish up.” He kisses Finn, a hand smacking down firmly on his ass. “Behave.”

“No promises,” Finn sings back, laughing as Reid pops his ass again.

We get busy packing my room, chatting while we work.

“Tell me about Crawley. Even though it’s close, I’ve never been there. What’s it like?” Finn asks.

“It was a roaming childhood. We didn’t have a sitter, and my mom worked all the time. We spent our time outside, playing in the river or at our cousin’s place. It was fun, most of the time. When we were teenagers, those outside adventures became big bonfires and lots of drinking, guys shooting guns at posts. Stupid shit. That’s when it became less fun for me. I never liked drinking all that much, and that was all anyone wanted to do. I stayed home a lot.”

“I don’t like to drink either. Makes me weepy and horny, which is an awful combination.”

I chuckle. “It’s not far from the original.”

“Yeah, except I don’t need a Finn-Flavor-Boost. I’m more than enough to handle on my own.”

“I happen to like the way you are.”

“Good because I’m not great at holding it in.” His eyes catch mine, and he gives one of those megawatt smiles that make my stomach swirly with want. “We’ll have to go to the river with the kids this summer. I bet we would have fun.”

Gods, I’m so far gone over this man.

“I’d like that. We haven’t been at all. The closest I get is cleaning those lake houses.”

“You thought more about giving up one job, maybe only working at Mel’s? We would support you if you wanted to find something else or go to school. We want to take care of you. I know you want to work, and I respect it, but I want you to like what you do,” he says cautiously.

I don’t know what to say to that. Going to school feels like a long-forgotten dream. What would I even want to do if I could? Damn though. It’s something to be given support to think it through. “That’s a big offer. I’ll think more about it. Stacey texted this morning, and I told her I would work Sunday before Porch Fest. The crew is down two girls still. But I’ll talk to her about leaving.”

I’m not ready to give up working, but cleaning the rentals is exhausting. If I’m going to work less, that’s definitely the job I want to let go of. But Stacey has been such a big help to me since I moved back that I won’t even consider it without making sure she can find someone to replace me before I go.

“I get it.” Finn sighs, moving on to my closet as I finish the last drawers.

He’s impatient, but I’m learning that’s the way he worries over things. He’ll give me time, even if he doesn’t love the idea.

“When does their father usually visit them? I haven’t heard you talk about the schedule, but from what I gathered, he still sees them,” he asks, changing the subject.

“We don’t have a formal agreement, but he’s supposed to take them at least one weekend a month. He hasn’t in a while though.” I dart a look at him, my cheeks heating with embarrassment and anger. I take a deep breath and keep going. “I’ve never told anyone this, but… he told me once it was a waste to spend too much time with children who will grow into betas. I guess that means even his own.” I strip my bed, gathering the loose pile.

“He said what?” Finn watches me from the closet doorway, his eyes wide with shock.

I sigh, holding the ball of sheets tighter. “Trent is…” I don’t know what to say. “He was good in the beginning but as time went on, he just stopped seeming to care about any of us. After he bonded with his omega, the kids have become an afterthought.”

Finn shakes his head, his face a storm of indignation. “I hate that for all of you but it’s his loss. The kids are awesome, and your ex is an asshole.”
