“Nothing. Clark said the same thing. Apparently, her father was a cheater, and she didn’t have much faith in men.”

Cassidy recalled conversations they’d had over the years about Tia’s lack of trust in men.

“Shit, so she didn’t do this. What about the boyfriend?” Cassidy began to panic. She was hopeful that what they’d discovered about the money would get them closer to the murderer, but evidently, it was proving both of their theories might have been wrong.

“What I have provides an alibi for both of them. Here, let me show you something.”

Davis removed his phone and began shifting through the device. Moments later, he pulled up a video he’d forwarded to his email and handed the device to Cassidy.

“Why are you showing me a sex tape?” She frowned at him, confused about what he wanted her to watch, but the stern look on his face had Cassidy conceding.

“Just take a look. You don’t have to watch the entire thing.”

She nodded, hit play, and the bodies began moving on the screen. She immediately noticed Tia and some man in a bedroom. The room was dark, but the video was clear, and she easily identified the woman she’d trusted with her life and personal information for the past few years.

“You watched this?”

“Some, not all. I wasn’t given much of a choice. This is part of the job, Cass; you know that.”

“I don’t give a damn about you watching porn, Nate. I’m more concerned with how watching this will find anything that might help clear my name.”

“There wasn’t much. According to the boyfriend, they were there all night. She recorded the whole thing, and it went on for hours . . .”

“His phone or hers?”

“Hers. She took the original and made that.” Davis motioned to the phone in Cassidy’s hand. Her eyes lowered to it briefly before they narrowed, and she tapped the screen. She did it several times, feeling Davis move closer.

“What’s wrong? You see something?”

Cassidy’s pulse thrummed at an expedited rate and not from the sexual content on the screen. Her reaction was from something else. Something that shouldn’t have been possible. She had to be imagining it.

“Look at this. Did you see this?”

“See what?”

Cassidy rewound the video and pressed play until the frame she needed was visible, then took a screenshot of the image. She rewound the video once more and hit play for Davis to watch. “Pay close attention to her wrist.”

“Why? What am I looking for?”

“Just watch. You’ll see exactly what I’m talking about.”

She pressed play and kept her eyes on Davis while he watched the replay. When his jaw tensed at the exact moment Tia’s wrist came into view, she spoke up. “You saw it, didn’t you?”

“Son of a bitch.”

Davis took the phone from Cassidy’s hands, rewound the clip, and played it again. He fast-forwarded and then watched a few more frames, pausing at another section. He extended the phone to Cassidy, allowing her to see what he just watched.

His tone was low. “Either that’s two different people, or I’m crazy.”

“No, you’re not crazy. I believe it’s two different people, and I recognize one of them.”

“You do?”

“Well, maybe not her, but I know that mark.” She reached for the phone and navigated to Davis’s photos, where she pulled up the screenshot of the frame she’d captured.

“It’s a birthmark. A very unique one that I’ve only seen once in my life. It belongs to Kami Arnold.”

The surprise from what she was saying slowly filtered onto Davis’s face. “What the hell, Cass? Are you sure?”
