“I’m not going to berate you Sam. I have to trust your instincts.”

The silence that fell over us wasn’t uncomfortable in the slightest. It felt calm and soothing, neither of us feeling the need to fill the quiet with talking. We could just enjoy each other, the feel of each other’s bodies and the sounds of our steady breathing. If the rest of the world fell away and it was just the two of us in the whole universe who remained, I wouldn’t ever bring myself to complain.

“I’d like to meet him,” I said. “In person.”

Sam shifted. “Really?”

I nodded. “I’d really like to get to know my son.” The words felt foreign in my mouth, but it wasn’t unpleasant. I found myself smiling. “Myson. I can’t believe it.”

Sam grinned, readjusting her position so that she faced me, straddling my lap between her thighs. “He’s an amazing boy. So smart and so cheerful all the time.”

“He must get that from you.” My face fell, suddenly realizing something. “I tried looking for you, you know.”

“I tried looking for you, too.”

“Did you have to drop out of college so that you could raise him?”

Sam nodded, but she didn’t look upset about it. “I made my choice. With Max on the way, I wanted to make sure I could afford to take care of him. I dropped out, used the money that would have gone toward my fourth year to buy him everything he would need, and then I got a job a few months after he was born.”

“You raised him all alone?”

“Nana was there with me.”

“I wish I knew how to find you. I would have…”

She shook her head, pressing her fingers gingerly to my lips. “I don’t want you beating yourself up over it. We ended up okay. Max is a happy, healthy boy.”

“When we get back, I’ll take care of both of you,” I said adamantly. “Everything he needs. Anythingyouneed. I’ll make sure you’ll want for nothing ever again.”

“Oh, Kris,” she said softly. “I don’t need your money. I just want you to be there to watch our son grow up.”

I couldn’t resist any longer. Placing a hand beneath her chin, I tilted her face up to bring her lips to mine. It was a sweet kiss, an unspoken promise to one another that this time we were going to be together. This time, I was never letting her go. I had no idea if I’d be a good father or not, but I was certainly going to try. As I kissed Sam passionately, I knew deep down that I’d give both of them everything I had if it meant their happiness.

Sam pressed her body against mine, gently rocking her hips. The friction made my cock twitch, already hardening with excitement. She grasped at my shirt’s collar and kissed me deeply, her tongue sweeping over mine in her hunger. I allowed my hands to descend down the curve of her back, grabbing her ass and giving her a needy squeeze.

“Kris, I—”

“What is it, kitten? Tell me.”

“I want you to—”

Three sharp raps at the door interrupted us. “What is it?” I asked, a bit snappier than I intended.

It was Charlie. He smirked when he saw Sam and I together. “Sorry for intruding.”

“Don’t be sorry,” Sam said with a giggle. “Come join us.”

“I wish I could, but I actually need to borrow Kris for a moment. There’s been a development. I’ve gathered the guys in the living room.”

I arched a brow. “Terrance?”

Charlie nodded grimly. “Terrance.”

Sam hopped off my lap and stood. “Should I join you for this meeting? I think it’s important that I stay informed like the rest of you.”

My hand settled easily on the small of her back. I regarded her carefully, amazed at her bravery and fire. “I think that’s best.”

We reconvened in the living room. Sam plopped herself down between Liam and Adam on the couch while Charlie and I took the wingback chairs on the other side of the glass coffee table. He had his iPad at the ready, several blurry pictures pulled up on the screen.
