“I’ve never been to Macau,” she explained. “I’d love to check it out a little. Do you think it’d be alright if we did a bit of sightseeing?”

I thought about it. Kris, Liam, and Charlie were preoccupied with the duchess’ security detail. I had no doubt that the three of them would be able to protect her. In the meantime, Sam and I had a couple of hours to kill. As long as I was with her to keep an eye out, I supposed there was no harm in taking a walk around the area.

“You know what? Sure. Might as well live it up a little.”

Sam’s eyes sparkled. “Great! I should warn you; I’m going to takea lotof pictures. I promised Nana and Max I’d send some to them.”

I chuckled. “Well, then. Let’s not disappoint.”

The air waswarm and humid despite the sun setting beyond the horizon. It was odd experiencing such warm weather in early February, though I supposed it was because I was more used to subzero temperatures back in New York.

Sam walked beside me with a bounce in her step, her excitement making my heart skip wildly. She checked out every single food stall she came across, amazed at the local street fare. Pork chop buns, Portuguese egg tarts, sweet almond cookies, savory seaweed pork floss rolls, steamed milk pudding. If she so much as blinked at something, I bought it for her.

“When in Macau,” I reasoned aloud.

Her appreciative smile sent me over the moon.

Every now and then, our hands brushed up against each other. After a while, I decided to lace my fingers between hers. It was easier that way, and I could make sure she stayed close.

“Don’t want you to trip, angel,” I told her.

“I’m notthatclumsy,” she said with a grin. She let me hold her hand anyway.

I loved how easily I could thread my fingers through hers, her soft skin a lovely sensation against my hard, calloused palms.

We didn’t even make it another block before it started to rain, light drops quickly followed by a heavy downpour. Sam giggled merrily as we ran for cover under a nearby overhang, our clothes practically soaked through. She looked stunning, her damp hair spilling over her shoulders and framing her slender face. There was next to no room under the overhang, so we were pressed up against each other to avoid the storm.

She smelled heavenly, like vanilla and peaches and springtime rain. No matter what I tried, I couldn’t bring myself to stop staring at her full, luscious lips. A shiver raced down my spine when I realized that she, too, set her gaze on my mouth.

“Sam…”

“Yes, Adam?”

I brushed a strand of her wet hair away and tucked it behind her ear. “Before, at the hotel. What were you going to ask me?”

She sucked in a shallow breath, her chest rising against me. “I wanted to ask you if…”

“Go on, Sam. It’s only me.”

“Do you think I could… Do you think you and the guys would…?”

I leaned in, barely keeping myself from kissing her. I circled my arms around her waist and held her tight, anticipation mounting deep within my core. “All you have to do is ask, Sam.”

She nibbled on her bottom lip. “Do you think all of you would want me?”

I sighed contently. “I don’t think. Iknow.”

There was a brilliant twinkle in her eye, a cute flush to her cheeks. “Good. Because I know I want all of you. It’s just…”

“What is it?”

“I’ve never done anything like this before. I might be way in over my head.”

I leaned in closer to her. There was barely an inch between us, our warm breaths ricocheting off each other’s cheeks. “That’s okay. We don’t want you feeling overwhelmed. You’re allowed to ask questions. All that we ask is that you’re open and honest with us.”

“Open and honest…” she echoed, glancing away for a split second. When her eyes found mine again, I saw a renewed determination. “Should we wait and talk to the others first? Make sure that they’re on board?”
