“Let us know if you have any questions,” Charlie added before they both left my office.

It was just her and I now.

Words failed me.

She was just so enchanting. Her big doe eyes, her soft lips, the light dusting of freckles across the bridge of her button nose. I was just as mesmerized at that moment as I was when I first met her.

Memories of her soft moans came rushing back to me, along with the feel of her skin and the curve of her body beneath me. Unlike the boys, I’d actually had her. That one, magical night helped me forget all my worries, all my cares. I’d be lying if I said I didn’t want her again. It’d be easy to close the distance between us, kiss her senseless the way I did five years ago.

The thing was… she looked like she wanted me to.

Sam’s breathing was shallow, the rise and fall of her chest steady as pink bloomed across her cheeks. I wanted to know what she was thinking. Why did her gaze linger on my lips so feverishly? Why were her pupils blown wide? I had to fight the urge to lose control. I swallowed hard, struggling against my craving to taste every inch of her skin—

“I’m sorry about yesterday,” she said.

I snapped back to reality. “Yesterday?”

She shifted slightly. She looked damn good in those yoga pants of hers. “I left really suddenly. I realize that might have made things unnecessarily awkward.”

“There’s no need to apologize, Sam. We were both surprised.”

“Right, of course.” She nibbled on her lower lip.

Fucking hell, I want to kiss her so bad.

“Do you think we should talk about it?” she asked quietly. “I’m really looking forward to working with all of you, but I don’t want what happened between us to make things…Well, difficult in any way.”

“I don’t think that will be a problem,” I said. “We can both be professional about this. We were two consenting adults who shared a night together. That doesn’t have to affect our work relationship. I don’t want our past to prevent you from feeling comfortable while working with us, so let’s just start fresh. How does that sound?”

“Just like that?”

“Just like that.”

Sam looked like she had something to say but chose instead to smile. It was a bit stiff. “Okay, sounds good to me.”

“You better get going. Liam doesn’t like to be kept waiting. I’ll be sending Charlie later to help you with some paperwork.”

Sam nodded. “Thank you, Kristoffer.”

“Kris is fine.”

She smiled a little wider, a real smile. “Kris,” she echoed before leaving.

My name had never sounded sweeter.

I sat down in my office chair and exhaled slowly.

The rest of the day went by without a hitch. I checked in with my other teams, relaying any important information they may need while out in the field and receiving their daily reports in return. I had a total of thirty bodyguards under my supervision, all of them protecting our clients while upholding the impeccable standards expected of Grand Paradise Security.

It had been forever and a day since I assigned myself and the guys to a client. Now that our business had grown, we were usually stuck at the office handling day-to-day operations rather than being out in the field. When Duchess Arianna De Aguente reached out requesting our services, however, I knew she was too high-profile of a client to assign to anyone else. She’d be our first royal client, and I trusted no one more than myself and the guys with her safety.

Adam, Liam, Charlie, and I…We were a well-oiled machine. We were ready for this.

With Sam in the equation…

This changes nothing, I thought to myself, even as I fixated on the memory of her long, fluttery lashes and how good she looked in those pants as she walked away.

My phone rang. The name Debbiepopped up on my screen.
