Pulling me onto my feet, he slashes something across the bars of my cage. Just like that, the rusted steel severs, clanging to the floor like plastic toys.

I’m free.

“Thank you,” I mumble, hardly able to process what’s happening.

“I’m sure you’ll find a way to repay me.”

Those callous hands lift me onto the window sill. Cold wind pounds against my damp skin. Harsh rain wipes away my sweat and my tears.

I look for Willow.

But the black cat is nowhere to be found.

Please be alright.

“Where are we going?” I ask.

Dragomir climbs up onto the window sill behind me.

“Home.”

Wrapping an arm around my waist, he blocks off the suffocating heat of the burning mansion.

I take a deep breath of fresh air.

So does he.

Then, we jump.

“What the hell is that?”

My simmering headache flares up. This is the last thing I need. Another surprise.

“I believe it’s a cat.”

Sharp yellow eyes glare at me from behind my uncle’s tattooed forearm.

“I know that,” I grumble. “Why the hell did you bring a cat to my coronation?”

Before he can answer, one more surprise pops out from behind his broad shoulders. The tuff of auburn hair is unmistakable.

My little sister.

“Technically, it’s still a kitten,” Mel casually corrects. “So be nice.”

She’s not supposed to be here. Hell, my uncle Maksim isn’t either. I’ve put out a strict ‘no visitation’ order to my men.
