She’s got to have one, she always does. But, from the outside, it doesn’t quite make sense.

Domenico is a clear downgrade from her last husband. And though her ex might have died—under mysterious circumstances, mind you—Sonia was always independent enough that I figured she’d disappear once she had enough money.

And, boy, does she have enough money. I know for a fact that she inherited her dead husband’s estate. That fucker was loaded with old school political dynasty money.

So, why crawl back to the underworld? Especially to a crumbling don? Domenico is becoming more disgraced by the second. Twenty years ago, he might have been a good spring board for Sonia, but now? He’s beneath her.

There must be an ulterior motive. But what?

The question makes my gut churn as I brush my teeth and paw through the cabinet doors to see what Francesca has brought with her.

Still, Sonia haunts my thoughts. Whatever she’s up to, it can’t be good news for Domenico—and that means it probably isn’t good news for Francesca either.

Maybe that’s why I’m feeling so compelled to protect my fake captive. Not because I’m worried of what Domenico might have in store for her, but because I know that Sonia must have something planned for her. And it can’t be good.

Slamming a cupboard door closed, I open another one and glance through it as I wash my toothbrush off in the sink, then set it aside.

Just as I’m about to turn and head back to the bedroom, though, my eyes fall on a curious sight.

Birth control pills.

I’ve been with enough women to instantly recognize the contraceptive.

Interesting.

Taking them out for a closer look, I see that Francesca has been taking them religiously. Hell, she even took one yesterday, obviously after I had brought her stuff over.

Despite the very essence of my plan centering around the need to impregnate her, I’m not angry.

But I am surprised.

Why is she on the pill? I thought she was a virgin. I’m sure she’s a virgin. Still…

Taking the pills with me, I decide that I’ll wake up my sleeping beauty after all.

Let’s see how she reacts to a bit of light grilling. It will be a good test of her resolve.

“Rise and shine, kitten,” I chant when I reach the bed. Without waiting for a response, I rip the duvet away, exposing Francesca to the elements.

But that’s hardly enough to wake a slumbering college student. Instead, she just rolls around, hugging herself as she clings onto unconsciousness.

The sight makes me pause for a moment. Last night, before we went to bed, she changed into a nightgown. The outfit isn’t exactly skimpy, but it does show off just enough of her plump thighs to make my morning wood beg to feel how tight she is in between those legs.

“Just a few more minutes…” Francesca mumbles, tucking her legs up to her stomach. But that just reveals more of her body. That’s enough to dissolve the protective fire raging inside of me, and replace it with a more primal hunger.

She looks so fucking good.

I’m practically drooling as I grab Francesca around the ankle and pull. Just like that, her body unfurls and those piercing hazel eyes rip open.

There’s a fear in her gaze that almost makes me feel bad as she gasps for air and looks around the room, like she just woke up from a nightmare.

Clearly, she’s forgotten where she is.

But then it all dawns on her, and that fright turns into irritation.

“I was sleeping,” she mumbles, wiping her eyes as she reaches around the mattress for the duvet that I already threw to the floor.

“And I woke you up,” I smirk.
