“Who said I had a thing for that guy?”

“Girl, you’d be crazy not to. Hell, if I hadn’t seen how you were looking at our mysterious older stranger, I might have introduced myself.”

“You’re getting over Mikey pretty fast.”

I almost feel bad when Janice’s shoulders slink down at the mention of her freshly minted ex.

“I’ve seen it coming for a while,” she sighs, before perking up again. “It’s almost nice to have it be official. Now, there’s nothing holding me back. Hell, I only found out about this party because I practically sent out an APB for a fun time the second that I hung up on Mikey.”

“But we had class.”

“I was going to ask you to skip class with me.”

“You know I would have never done that.”

“Well, now you don’t have to.”

Shoving her phone away, Janice gives me one last pleading look before she starts to back away.

My body wants to follow after her, but my stubborn brain is keenly aware of how much trouble I can get myself into.

“Janice…”

“Come on, help me forget that asshole.”

“Who?”

“That’s the spirit,” she laughs, still backing away.

“How is this party going to help you forget him?” Raising my voice so that it can still reach her.

“Let me show you.”

“I don’t know…”

“Aw, come on. One night of fun together before we turn old and grey. You won’t regret it. ” I get one last wink from my friend before she twirls around and takes off down the street, straight towards the frat house.

My heart jumps at the excitement in her step. Why can’t I be so uninhibited? I’m just as young as her, after all, even if I don’t feel it sometimes.

One night.

Before I even know what I’m doing, I feel my feet moving. In the blink of an eye, I’m chasing after my friend—running away from the darkness, towards the music, towards the fun.

Slowly, my worries start to melt.

But one stubborn thought pulls my gaze back over my shoulder. My feet slow as I peer into the darkness behind me and realize that the hairs on the back of my neck are raised.

Is someone watching me?

Or am I just excited?

It’s hard to tell, but as I stare into the darkness, I can almost picture Ray in the shadows, standing there, watching me.

For some reason, the thought doesn’t freak me out. Hell, it only serves to turn me on something fierce.

He was so hot. And the way he touched me.

Fuck. Janice is right. We both need to get laid, or at least have some good old fashioned college fun.
