“Late for something?” I ask, already knowing the answer. I’ve been following her for so long now that I know her routine by heart.
Hell, I didn’t even stalk her here tonight. I just showed up, knowing that she would too.
“Well, I was supposed to be in there.” Francesca says, slowly looking back towards me.
Still, her eyes remain downcast.
The shyness only brings out the predator in me.
Is this undercover princess ashamed of how she reacted when she saw me? There was no hiding the fear I aroused in her… or the lust.
“Doesn’t look like they’re letting anyone in there,” I note.
“Yeah, I figured…. Do you know why?”
“I heard something about a bomb threat,” I shrug.
That sends her shimmering gaze darting back onto me.
“A bomb threat?!” Francesca’s bottom lip drops and it’s my turn to fight back my arousal. Oh, what I could do with that mouth…
“That’s what I heard,” I nod.
“From who?”
The truth is, while I was waiting for her to show up, I overheard some of her classmates as they received the email telling them why class had been cancelled tonight.
“Probably someone worried about a pop quiz,” I smile, remembering how the students all came to that same conclusion. “At least, that’s what I’ve heard people say.”
“You seem to hear a lot of stuff.”
“Word gets around fast in these parts,” I smirk. “Surprised you didn’t know about it.”
“I… I was running late for class. Really, I just got here. No one told me anything.”
“You didn’t get an email?”
Francesca curses under her breath as she reaches into her tight jean pocket and pulls out her smart phone.
“Shit… my phone is still on airplane mode…” she mumbles, desperately trying to find the campus wi-fi signal.
“Oh, did you fly here?” I can’t help but tease. The real answer is obvious to anyone who knows who she really is.
This secret mafia princess thinks airplane mode makes her harder to track.
She’s wrong.
“It’s… that’s personal information,” she says, looking back up at me. The shame and the fear are slowly fading in place of suspicion.
I’m honestly surprised it took her this long. I didn’t expect Francesca to talk so openly with me. Especially since I must look more like one of her father’s goons than any other person she’s ever come across on this cursed campus.
“Crazy ex-boyfriend,” I nod, knowingly.
“You have no idea,” she sighs.
Oh, I do, princess.
Francesca’s father would erupt if he found out that she was sneaking around behind his back.
