“What is wrong with them?!” I ask, pacing in a wild circle as I slip my finger under the trigger.

“They’ll come around,” Castor assures me. “That was a lot to lay on them. Remember, most of these men aren’t thinkers. They’re killers.”

“I thought Spyros might at least have enough room left in that thick skull of his for some thought.”

“He was thinking straight enough to give you his gun.”

“He’s lucky I didn’t shoot him with it,” I spit.

“You might have had better luck if you did,” Castor jokes, and when I look up at my battered giant, I’m surprised to see what looks like a genuine smile on his face.

“What?” I ask, confused enough that I’m momentarily broken out of my rageful fit.

“It looks like our warrior queen has returned.”

His comment causes me to pause.

There’s some truth to his words. This rage is familiar. But I know everything has changed.

I’m not looking to burn the world down anymore, I’m looking to save it.

Leo has given my fantasies life, he’s giving me a home to come back to… a future I’m willing to fight for.

But I can’t do it alone.

“We need to find Leo…” I mumble. “We can leave these cowards to figure shit out on their own. But there’s no time to wait around and help enlighten them.”

“Don’t give up on your men so easily,” Castor says.

Up above, a helicopter races by. In the distance, I can hear even more sirens than I could on our way here.

“It sounds like they’ve set off another bomb,” I grumble, my heart dropping as I realize I was just in a room full of men who would do such a thing. These aren’t people I can control. And I’m not sure they are soldiers I want to lead… even if they’d follow me.

“Maybe… Maybe not,” Castor says.

“What does that mean?”

“It means that I’m not so sure we know who’s been setting off these bombs.”

“Leo seemed pretty sure he knew…” I challenge him.

“I’m not saying it wasn’t Greeks,” Castor says, a sigh sinking his broad shoulders. “Listen, Castor didn’t tell me much while I was locked away in that cellar. But I have connections on the outside, and those connections came for me this morning.”

My stomach drops. “You said you slipped out of Leo’s safe house on your own…” I whisper, remembering how Castor explained his escape on the car ride over here. Our trip was brief, but he still took the time to assure me that he hadn’t hurt any of Leo’s men.

… Not that they weren’t going to be torn apart by Leo when he found out that they let him escape.

“I did,” Castor assures me. “But I only bothered to escape because of some information I received in the morning.”

“About how Retsos was coming for me?”

“That’s right.”

“Why didn’t you tell Leo?’

“How was I going to do that? I don’t exactly have his phone number…”

“Why didn’t you tell me?”
