I’m not that little girl anymore. I’m not the child that Retsos used to push around. I’m a killer. And that untouchable bastard helped make me into one.

Shaking my head, I force myself back to the cold, harsh reality of what we’re all doing here.

“Leonid Barinov. This is Princess Sophia. Princess Sophia, this is—”

“I thought I told you to stop calling me princess!” I snap. The fucker has always gotten his kicks out of doing the exact opposite of what I say, but if he’s about to pawn me off on our greatest enemy, then why the hell would I take his shit any longer?

… And just like that, I’m reminded of Castor. The old fool. If only he had been smart enough to leave me and escape when we’d heard that father had been killed, then maybe we wouldn’t be in this mess. Maybe I’d even be free to do as I truly please, and not as Retsos threatens me to do.

“As you can see, the princess is a little testy from our long journey,” Retsos sneers, his dark beady eyes never leaving me.

“She told you to stop calling her princess,” Leonid growls, the hate in his eyes shifting from me to my ‘handler’.

The air goes thick with a tense heat, and I can tell that Retsos is trying to keep himself calm. The untouchable isn’t used to people talking to him like this—only I even dare, and ever since Father’s death, I’ve been daring less and less.

There’s no one left to protect you, Sophia. You’re on your own. Even Castor has been taken away…

“Look at you two,” Retsos spits. “Getting along so well already. Hopefully that means these negotiations won’t take long.”

“What’s going on, you bastard?” The man standing next to Leonid steps forward. He’s older than my anti-prince charming, and his features are much darker. Still, he blazes with a barely withheld fury.

I knew they’d be able to see right through us. That’s why Retsos had wanted me to stay out of sight.

“What do you mean?” Retsos asks, playing dumb.

“I mean what’s with all of the secrecy?” the man asks. “First you hide the girl, then you force her in here, seemingly against her will. If she doesn’t—”

“She wants it,” Retsos interrupts, anger shaking his gravelly voice. “But the princess is young and moody. Don’t let that take away from this opportunity.”

“How about you let her talk for herself?” Leonid suddenly says. This whole time, his attention has been laser focused on me. He’s just been staring.

Even now, I can feel his royal blue eyes burning through my cheeks, clawing up and down my body. I’m not exactly wearing the most revealing dress, but against his intense gaze, it feels like I might as well not be wearing anything at all.

Crossing my legs, I try to fight back the heat that threatens to pinken my cheeks.

What’s happening?

“She doesn’t seem too happy to be here,” Leonid’s partner adds.

“Tell me, Sophia. What’s going on?” Stepping forward, Leonid makes it obvious that he’s already done fucking around.

The closer he gets, the taller he seems to become.

A blonde-haired giant with intense blue eyes.

My heart flutters… and then sinks as Retsos steps up to intercept the young prince.

“I will do the talking here,” Retsos growls.

“No. You won’t.” It’s like Retsos isn’t even there. Leonid just steps past him like a king would to a peasant.

But before he can get too close, Retsos has to go and throw himself into the middle of it all.

“Grab her!” he orders.

One of his pigs immediately takes me around the wrist. The goon’s callous fingers dig deep into my skin and I can’t help but whimper in pain.

“Let. Go. Of. Her.”
