“Lucky you’re a pro escape artist then,” I tease, holding on to her tightly. “I wish the Wind Dragons would have given you more information so that we know how to keep you safe.”

“Me too. They must have one hundred percent thought it wouldn’t touch me since I wasn’t in town anymore. Whatever it is, this gang must really want to get back at the MC if they are going through all of this effort.”

Clover returns with coffee. “Mom just called, she said she’s on her way, too. There goes the neighborhood.”

Cara smiles. She is obviously well loved by her friends and family, and I hope she knows that.

We’re on our second cup of coffee when Cara’s parents arrive about two hours later. Rake rushes in and hugs her tightly, and I can see how relieved he is that she is okay. The same with Bailey, who rubs her back and closes her eyes.

“I am so sorry, Cara,” Rake says, shaking his head. “We had no idea that they would try something like this. We underestimated them. And it won’t happen again.”

Rake looks over at me and nods, while Bailey sits next to me. “Nice to see you again, Decker.”

“You too. I wish it was under better circumstances.”

“You and me both,” she says.

After everyone greets one another, we all sit down and get to the bottom of this.

“Who did you underestimate?” Felix asks, getting straight to the point. “We need to know what we are up against here.”

Rake nods, glancing around the room. His eyes land on me. “We trust him?”

A chorus of agreements echo around the room. My favorite has to be the yes that easily slips from Cara’s sweet lips.

“Okay,” he replies, stretching his jean-clad legs out. “There’s a new street gang in our neighborhood. And not just a bunch of young kids getting into shit—these men are dangerous. They deal drugs and have the numbers to cause some trouble.”

“So what happened that Rhett had to leave?” Cara asks.

“Arrow and Rhett went to speak to the gang members about selling drugs on our territory. We wanted to keep the peace, but let them know where we stand, too. Unfortunately, Rhett got caught in the middle of a gang war. Guns were pulled and Rhett accidentally injured a young boy while protecting himself, which happened to be one of the gang leaders’ sons.”

I wince at what I’m hearing. Regardless of it being an accident, hearing about a boy being hurt is never a good thing.

“Despite this not being an MC issue, because Rhett was the one who injured the boy, his life is now in danger and they want blood,” Rake explains, clenching and unclenching his fists. “We thought the best thing to do would be to send him away until we can sort it out, because they said they want him dead. Never once did we think they would find Cara. Hell, they broke up and she moved away, so we thought she was safe.”

“How injured was the boy?” Clover asks.

“I’m not sure exactly, but we know he was shot in the leg. He’s alive, I do know that,” Rake says, looking over at Cara. “My first reaction is to take you home with me, but with the rest of the gang there, that doesn’t make sense either.”

“Now that we know what’s going on, we can protect Cara from here,” I say to her dad, sharing a look with Felix, who nods his agreement. “We have me, Felix, Clover and my friends that could help us.”

Rake arches a brow. “You mean the Knights of Fury MC?”

I nod. “If needed.”

“The Wind Dragons look after their own,” he states.

Bailey rolls her eyes. “Now is not the time for you to be proud, Rake. Our daughter is in danger, and I don’t care if we have to pull in a favor with the devil himself if that’s what’s going to keep her safe.”

“The Wind Dragons have no beef with the Knights,” Clover says to Rake, shrugging. “I don’t see why uniting in this would be a bad thing. This is Knights territory, so they should know what is going on. Like you said, the gang has numbers. With the Knights at our backs, so do we.”

Rake hesitantly agrees. “Okay, Decker. You give me a contact from the Knights and I will speak to them.”

I nod.

Now I just have to hope that Temper will agree to helping us.

Shit. What am I pulling the Knights into?
