He comes and stands directly behind me and asks, “Do you like it?”

“I love it. Thank you for putting me in here. Wow, Kell. I, it's like Rook Wood has been transported here. Wow.”

I feel him brush my back and he rests his chin on my shoulder. “Anything you want, ask me. I’ll sort it for you. Anything.”

I turn my head and instinctively kiss the end of his nose. “I don’t think there’s much more to ask for, Kell.” I shyly look up at him. “I’ll get comfy and sort my laptop out. Can we say fifteen minutes? Downstairs?”

“Sure, give me a knock when you’re ready. I’m next door.” He points to the other door.

“Oh, I thought that would be for Grace.”

“No, it’s my room. I’ve always had it.” He winks as he tells me, “I’ve put Grace near Kenny.”

“You devil, she’ll freak out,” I say, inhaling on a gasp as I do. “She was going on and on about him after nightclubgate, but also Xander, so…” I start to laugh, “Nicely done, though. Good thinking.”

I go to high five him, but instead of a slap of hands, he pushes his fingers through mine and curls them. “I’m glad you like the room,” he whispers as he pulls our hands to his lips, running them over my fingers onto my knuckles, kissing them.

I freeze in place, but smile tentatively at him. “I do.”

“See you in fifteen minutes or so. I’ll order the food up.” He spins around and walks out of the room, closing the door behind him.

Chapter

Thirty

Kellen

I can’t get out of there quickly enough. Mere seconds more and I may have done something really stupid. Seeing her there, surrounded by colours I picked from my home woods, I was transported back in time, dappled light through lush green trees, walking her home through the woods from a day at the lake. Me holding onto her hand to help her over fallen branches. A kiss, soft lips, velvet smooth skin under my hands. Stroking, caressing. Total heaven on earth.

Fuck me, I really need to get a grip. I nearly blurted out how much I want her, how much I’ve missed her, how I I fucking need to have her. She fills up my dark life. Turning the water on and only running the cold, I jump into the shower. Even with the icy water lashing at my body, I can feel the heat of her touch on my skin. Grabbing for my body wash, I squeeze more than I need into my palm. But if I’ve only got fifteen minutes, I need to sort my body out. My reaction towards her is visceral, my feelings becoming more extreme. And I don’t want to scare her off. Jesus I’ve missed her. My balls are aching, my cock has been semi hard all day. And I’m not sure staying in is a good idea. Not with my current state of my mind, thoughts that are running in one direction only.

It takes minutes for me to climax. I groan and think of us in the shower at her house. And I feel totally unsatisfied. My erection hasn’t gone down, so I continue to stroke myself. Fuck, I can hardly breathe. I want her to do this. Her. Here. I’ve never brought anyone into my rooms at this house, but I want her in here with me. Touching me like I’ve touched her all fucking day.

It was torture and heaven rolled into one. Her scent up my nose constantly, rose and summer rain. I close my eyes as I come again. Getting my breathing under control, standing in the shower longer to sort out my scrambled mind, I can’t let this derail my plans. I want her to say yes to the plan for tomorrow night. Xander hasn’t said, but I can see what he’s setting up. I really, really need Evie on board.

She’s late, and it’s the best part of an hour before I hear a small knock at my door. As I’ve gone up to the roof, I start to shut the doors to the outside when I hear her at the bottom of the spiral staircase that leads upwards.

“Is it a roof terrace?” she asks as she starts to climb.

“No, just a lookout post. Come on up, though.” I hold my hand out for her to come up. There’s a little landing and a door that opens out. She steps onto the landing and out into the fresh air, gasping at the view.

“It’s glorious. You can see the sea from ‘ere,” she says in jest.

“You can’t, as it’s over that hill,” I point in the general direction. “But it is an amazing view from here, better than in the rooms.” The French countryside is bathed in early spring sunshine, and I smile at her face. I start to laugh when she looks down, gives an even bigger gasp and starts to touch the leading on the tiles. “Only you would give more attention to leading than that.” I gesture outwards over the view, and shake my head.

“Yes, but look at it, Kell. It's amazing work.” She touches it with reverence, like it’s made of gold. “Look at how much skill has gone into it.”

“Right, enough. I’m not staying up here with the lead. Let’s go eat. You can come back tomorrow and paw at it all you want.” She starts to protest, but allows me to push her towards the doors.

“Your room is amazing, so beautiful,” she says, and I watch her hands in fascination as she touches my furniture, running her fingers along fabrics, silks and satins. “I love the colour scheme. This grey is really unusual. I bet it changes colour depending on the time of day.”

“It goes from grey to blue to green and back,” I answer, not taking my eyes off her hands.

She laughs out, “I bet the ladies love it. The bed’s humongous.”

I frown a bit at that, and snap out, “I don’t have anyone up here, Evie. No one. Too personal.”

Her face falls and she says, “Sorry, I didn’t think when I barged in to go upstairs. It reminded me of your old bedroom at home with the stairs in your room there. I’m truly sorry, Kellen, I didn’t mean to intrude.” She’s literally backing out of the door. In her haste to get out, she knocks into a table with a lamp on it. It topples, but doesn’t fall, and I hear the distress in her voice as she tries to grab it.
