“Oh, no. She’ll never forgive me.” I clasp my head in my hands and blow out a slow, deep, very resigned breath. The plethora of missed calls on my phone, all from the states, does nothing to soothe my suspicions. “Is it really bad?” I ask the room in general.

“Some nice pics of you,” says Jonno, coming in laughing. “You look good together. No wonder Marcus is hopping.” He flashes a well-read gossip site at me, with pictures of me and Xan locking lips.

“When did we do that?” I ask him in amazement.

“You were kissing me all night, Evie. It was lovely,” he says dreamily.

“No, Xan. I only kissed you once.”

“No, Evie,” he says, shaking his head. “After every tequila, you said there wasn’t enough salt on your glass and you were licking the salt off my lips.”

“You are kidding me, right?”

“No. It was amazing. And I’m incredibly jealous of Marcus. I told him so. Several times last night. And again this morning.”

“Oh, God. Where’s James?” I ask, feeling a bit faint.

“At his studies. He’s had the chat with Xander this morning,” puts in Jude laughing.

“I was terrified. He threatened to cut off all my banking and confiscate all my best, ummm, assets.” He grabs his dick at this, a rye smile gracing his lips, and we all laugh.

My phone starts to ring again and I stare into my tea. “Please tell me that’s not Marcus’s number.” I show Xan the screen.

“It’s not Marcus. It's Kellen, Evie. Better placate him at least.”

“Kellen,” I croak out.

“Don’t you fucking Kellen me, Evie Greystone.” Oh dear, full names.

I go for dumb as a rock. “Sooo… I went out with Grace last night. We met Will and Kenny and they took us to a club opening and I had too many tequilas. They introduced me to Ash, Ben, Jack and a few others from your label, but seriously, guess who else was in the bar last night. You’ll never guess, Kell.”

”Come off it, Evie, I know he’s there. I can’t come and see my son at your house, but he can stay the fuck over.”

I look over at everyone. “I’ll put you on speaker, Marcus,” I sigh.

“Fucking Marcus!” he shouts. “I’m gonna spank you raw, Kitten, when I get there.”

I look in horror at everyone. “He means like in a few months, doesn’t he?” They’re all falling about laughing.

James walks in just in time to hear the spanking comment. “Oh, hey Dad,” he says as if it’s the most normal thing in the world. “What’s happened now?” He looks around at everyone.

Kellen shouts, “Your mother was snogging my best mate full on, in a club, in front of the media!”

“Did I?” I say, genuinely surprised. “In my defence, I did not know the media people were there.”

“It was opening night, Evie! Are you stupid?”

I’m annoyed with him digging at me, and shout back, “At least I didn’t have sex in front of them.”

“I didn’t know sex was on the menu, E. I’m game if you are. There’s another club opening up tonight,” Xander chimes in, pointing at the phone and laughing.

“Fuck off, Xander. Touch her again and I swear I’ll throttle you.”

“To be fair to myself,” says Xan matter of factly, “we never touched, really. It was more licking.” We all start to laugh and Marcus hangs up.

“Oh dear, I think he’s upset. You’re for it, mother,” James laughs. “He’ll be coming over early at this rate. When are you going back, Uncle Xan?”

“I’m not. I’m staying until he comes over next week for a label meeting. Then we go back to finish the tour ‘til April, Mayish.” He stops for a second then goes on hesitantly. “I wanted to ask you something, Evie. It’s his birthday soon. I’ve sorted a venue, but wanted your input into something,”
