“They were drinking Marshall’s whiskey,” I add.

“I’ve got to get me some of this whiskey. They all talk about it like it’s the best thing since sliced bread. I’ll go to Devon in the summer and beg him in person if I have to,” Xan declares.

My phone pings and I laugh as she’s taken a pic of her face with a confused look on it. Sent it along with the pic of my dick I sent one drunk night here, thinking about her. It was a close up and I tell her what it was and what angle. She sends me back a celebration face.

Kitten

I laugh at that.

Xander looks over my shoulder. “Drunk? Defo. Flirting? Totally.” He grins and walks away.

I call Mick, telling him we’re off to London early. I know Kenny is meeting Evie at her buildings on Tuesday. I need to get there to ‘drop in’ on the meeting. My mother has also been calling again, wanting to meet with James, and going on about yet more drama coming out of Ireland.

I call her back, looking to get it out of the way, and hoping it won’t sour the good mood I’ve found too much. “Mother, how are you?”

“Oh, Marcus darling, I’m wonderful, so glad you’ve rang. I really think you need to come home to talk about this Ireland stuff. And can you get me James’s number? I'd like to set up some time with him.”

“I’m coming to London tonight, I’ll be there early hours. I’ve got stuff to do Tuesday, but I’ll speak to James and see if he’ll come to the house. He’s got exams, though, so I know his schedule is pretty tight. I think they start in a week, so if it’s a no, it’s a no for now.”

“Oh, I’m sure he can fit me in. I should be a priority for him, as his grandmother. He was so delightful at the party. So like you. And when you were both on stage, it was like watching two peas in a pod. Uncanny. Everyone was talking about how good looking he is. Maybe even more so than you, Marcus.” She laughs at her own joke and I roll my eyes.

“Talking of the party,” she continues, completely oblivious to my reaction, “do you know why the Greystone boy is refusing to speak to Isobel? Chrissie is beside herself. Isobel’s not going out, and she even refused to visit with friends last week. Chrissie had to threaten her to get her out this week. Apparently, they bumped into Everett, and, according to Chrissie, she refused to speak to her. Can you believe it? Sent her security over to move Isobel on. I’m not sure who Everett thinks she is, but?—”

“Isobel approached Evie? You’ve got to be kidding me. What did I tell you, Mother? If one of your friends goes near her, I swear to god you’re out. And her name’s Evie. You call her Everett again and I’ll halve your allowance.” There’s deathly silence on the phone. My good mood is gone, and the threat in my outburst has hit the mark.

“Marcus darling, it really is not my fault if our friends won’t put up with Evie Greystone and her uppity ways.”

I cannot believe this woman. Why does she not listen to me? “You think I’m kidding, Mother? Try me. Leave. Her. Alone. I’ll see you Wednesday. Probably. I’ve got stuff to sort for the festivals. And I think Xan has booked some place for recording while we’re there, but out of London. So I’ll be in the UK, but not just London.”

“Okay darling. We will be going to Yorkshire for the start of the village Fete season. They need me so much to add value to the events. We are quite a crowd puller these days.” She’s already forgotten my threats. She truly is the most deluded person I know. “We can go out for dinner on Wednesday. Somewhere exclusive. I’d like to show you off.” She tinkles a laugh at me.

“No way, Mother. You are not going for the ‘do you know who my son is’ angle.”

“Don’t be silly, darling boy. But it doesn’t hurt if I want a nice table at a nice restaurant.”

“Shameless.”

“See you Wednesday, darling,” she chimes at me.

I arrive late Monday early hours of Tuesday, full of energy and ready to dazzle anyone in my path, especially if they are female and have the last name Greystone. I’d love to stay at the Greystone house to see how things are going, but James has warned me off. So it’s back to the hotel.
