“Dear Mom,” Tess read. “Made it safely to Colorado Springs. Leaving for Denver tomorrow.”
Beside her, Peyton smiled. “Not bad! Spike told me you knew Morse Code, but I didn’t believe it till now.”
“Oh really?” Tess said in a teasing voice. “It seems you’ve underestimated me, sir.”
“It seems so.” He moved closer, until his arm was pressing against hers. Tess’s heart fluttered as she remembered the things they had done together yesterday evening on the dinner table. The way Peyton had kissed her. The way he had milked her. And they would have done even more than that if that rotten jerk Roscoe hadn’t shown up when he had.
She turned back to the machine, in the hopes of hiding the sudden flush that was heating her face.
“But, um… why are you showing me this?” she asked.
“This can be your new job,” Peyton said. “Roscoe says he wants you doing something around the farm, right? I figured, seeing as how you know Morse Code and all, you could monitor the telegraph machine.”
“So I would just… sit here and read messages?”
“You wouldn’t have to do it all day. Just check on it every couple of hours during the daytime to see what people are saying out there. Most of it’s pretty mundane, as you can see. We just want to keep an eye out for any indication that people might be heading our way. In particular, Roscoe is worried about airships.” He gestured over his shoulder. “It’s been on his mind ever since that one came down in the valley.”
“I’m surprised he allows you to keep a telegraph machine here,” Tess said. “I thought he didn’t like new-fangled things.”
Peyton shrugged. “He wasn’t too keen on it at first, but I was able to get him to come around.”
“Not by slamming your head against his, I hope.” The memory of the fight last night still made her feel a little queasy.
Peyton chuckled. “No, nothing like that, ma’am. I prefer to use subtler methods of persuasion.”
“Such as?”
“Oh, you know…” The minotaur glided his fingers up Tess’s arm, and she found herself desperately wishing her dress didn’t have sleeves so she could feel him touching her skin on skin. “Logic… reason… that sort of thing.”
“I see,” Tess breathed, her pulse accelerating. “So you don’t like to use brute force.”
“Only when it’s absolutely necessary, ma’am.”
He drew her body against his and kissed her, slow and deep. Tess slipped her arms around him and touched the thick muscles of his lower back. She could feel him getting hard inside his britches, and she was getting slick underneath her drawers and petticoats too. Her nipples ached as they pushed against the confining fabric of her camisole and dress. She slid her hands lower and gave the bisonman’s butt that squeeze she’d been thinking about earlier. He returned the favor.
Then, the next thing Tess knew, she was pressed up against the wall of the barn, and Peyton was lifting the skirts of her dress while her fingers fumbled with buttons on the front of his britches.
CHAPTER 24
It was incredible, Peyton thought, how his animal instincts seemed to take control of him whenever Tess was around. For about as long as he could remember, he’d always prided himself on his calm, level-headed demeanor, a characteristic that set him apart from his more aggressive, bull-headed brothers.
But there was something about the little hucow—the shape of her body, the scent of her dark hair, the sweet sound of her voice—that brought out the beast in him. It had happened yesterday morning in Roscoe’s bedroom. It had happened last evening on the dining table.
And now it was happening again.
They were inside Peyton’s workshop, on one of the two walkways that ran the length of the barn. He had the little hucow shoved up against the wall, and they were kissing and moaning while their hands struggled with each other’s clothing. It probably would have been a hell of a lot easier if they had undressed themselves instead of trying to undress each other, but their brains weren’t working like that right now. She wanted what was in his pants, and he wanted what was under her dress, so that’s what their hands were doing, groping and tugging blindly at each other’s garments in a blind frenzy of lust.
Peyton liked the outfit Tess was wearing today. He liked how feminine it made her look, not that she needed any help in that department. But why did it have to have so many damned layers to it? Underneath the skirts of her dress, she had on a petticoat, and underneath that, a pair of women’s drawers and stockings that came up past her knees. She wasn’t wearing any padding or bustle. With her curves, she didn’t need any. Still, she had on far too much clothing for Peyton’s liking.
At last, frustrated, he broke their kiss and dropped to his knees with a savage growl. He shoved Tess’s skirts up, then her petticoat, and finally he yanked down her drawers, ripping them apart in the process.
“Oh!” Tess gasped. “Peyton!”
The minotaur barely heard her. At the moment, his attention was entirely focused on the delicious smell of feminine arousal wafting from between the hucow’s legs. He drew in one deep inhalation, filling his lungs with her scent. Then he crushed his face into her crotch and feasted on her loins. His sharp horns went around her hips, pinning her against the wall as he licked her. His tongue slid between her folds, lapping up her sweet juices. She clutched at his hair with tiny fingers and thrust her pelvis into him as he bathed her pussy with his tongue.
“Oh God, Peyton!” the hucow whimpered. “Oh God, you’re going to make me come…”
That’s the idea, he wanted to tell her, but speaking would involve separating his mouth from her cunt, and he didn’t want to do that. Not until she had come all over his face.
