Finn’s lip curls up as he stifles a smile. He doesn’t take me seriously, and it’s pissing me off. “That’s very creative.”

“You don’t want to see how creative I can get.”

“I have presented yer options. Yer free to choose.”

Again, he goes from caring to cold at the flip of a switch, his anger rising to match mine until the room is rife with our warring emotions.

“Why do you care enough to heal me in the first place?”

“Choose.”

Jeez, he’s cranky now.

Do vampires go through PMS?

Why give me a choice in the first place? He didn’t bother giving me a choice before he claimed me in front of Sebastian, and he certainly won’t give me a choice when he sticks me with his fangs and drinks my blood.

“Fine. She can do it.”

I don’t trust the witch, but I trust the vampire less.

With a nod from Fintan, the witch steps up and holds out her hand. “I can ease your anxiety as well, so you’re not so on edge.”

“No.” I jolt back so quickly Zana flinches.

For once, my anxiety is keeping me sane. It’s how I know my brain hasn’t been infiltrated by a vampire’s influence.

“It’s yer decision,” he says, sounding disappointed. “But know that I meant it when I said no harm will come to ye while yer here.”

I laugh. “Starting when?”

“You’re hurting. Let me heal you,” Zana coaxes gently, drawing my attention away from the Celtic vamp. Her hand extends to me once again.

After a moment of consideration, I place my hand in hers and let her guide me back to the uncomfortable armchair while I try to assuage the anxiety bubbling in my gut.

She’s a Sun Witch. We’re sisters. I can trust her.

I can’t help the gasp that comes out of me when Zana’s healing magic worms its way into my body. It spreads through me with a warmth that grows the longer she casts until sweat gathers on my brow and the soreness in my body fades, turning into a constant, pleasant tingle instead.

“I will prove that I want what’s best for ye,” Fintan says, standing sentry as Zana works. “However that looks, I will achieve it.”

“You only want me to be your personal blood bag because you think we have some kind of connection.”

But I admit Fintan is very convincing. Even if it is just his vampire mind tricks getting to me.

“Will that be all?” Zana asks as she stands, leaving me with a sense of warm comfort that I cling to desperately. “I could stay with her, if you like. Monitor her during the day.”

Fintan fixes her with a look. “Good one.”

She shrugs. “Can’t blame a witch for trying.”

“Seal and secure Josie’s suite before ye take yer leave,” Fintan says, leading Zana to the door and opening it for her.

“Great, and then maybe I can enjoy the last few hours of the weekend with no vampires bothering me.”

“Hey!” I call before the door shuts. “You’re just going to leave me in here by myself?”

He looks around the room, confused. “I asked if ye wanted anything else. Ye have all the necessities.”
