Page 63 of Reckless Encounters

I know this is fucking dangerous for my mental sanity. It may just be a piece of clothing, but every female on this planet knows it’s so much more than that. But that doesn’t stop me from letting him tug it down over my body. And it sure as hell doesn’t stop me from taking in the way he devours me in it.

“Thank you for tonight. I better get some sleep or else my boss will be very unhappy with me tomorrow.”

He laughs at that, and with a smirk, he says, “I’m pretty sure your boss will be anything but unhappy with you.”

I’m so thrilled he isn’t freaking out or acting weird. Maybe some of that armor clad wall may finally be coming down.

“How will I ever repay you for the guest room full of black cat hair and all these orgasms?” I tease, before I walk out of his room.

Parker seems to think about something, and then he says, “Well, I do have a favor to ask of you.”

Ipeek at my opened office door every few seconds, waiting for her arrival. I knew the minute I truly gave in to my desire for Ava, this would happen. I’d want her every second of every day.

Her asking me to join her at her grandparents’ house was just another step in the direction I thought I would never head again. I haven’t given her my answer just yet, but I know damn well I will. I’m honored to meet the people she holds so dear. Not only was it a shock that she wanted me to go, but the fact that the idea of meeting her family didn’t have me running for the hills is something I still need to digest.

After our first encounter at Masqued, she made me feel so out of control that it was a reckless decision to allow myself to have her again.

Too many negative things have happened in my life that I wasn’t in control of involving people I care about, and I refuse to let that ever happen again. Which is exactly why I played the asshole card for so long with Ava. But the more and more our lives have tangled together, the harder it’s become to stay away.

I’ve never been so attracted to another person. Our chemistry and the way we read the other’s desires are unexplainable and incomparable to anything I’ve ever experienced. She has also become an unlikely friend over the past month, and I know that will make it even harder when she moves on from whatever this is.

I was so fucking stupid to not give in to this long ago. She made it clear she understood it would just be sex between us, but I couldn’t believe it back then. Couldn’t see past my own fucked-up issues.

Speaking of issues; she’s even agreed to be my date to the wedding with my distant family as a favor to me. Even though she owes me absolutely nothing, already giving me more than I probably deserve from her. I know it’s going to be one hell of a day being amongst all of them, but having her beside me might be the crutch I need to get through it all.

The past couple of weeks, she’s been in my bed more than her own. Although every morning, I wake up to cold sheets beside me. I’m choosing to ignore the fact she feels the need to escape in the middle of the night, along with the disappointment that fills me.

My ears perk up when I hear her voice in the lobby of my office.

“He isn’t expecting you,” I hear Tasha’s distant voice snark.

“He is the one who called me,” Ava clips back, and I am on my feet, not liking Tasha’s tone with her.

“I don’t believe you, Ava. You need to know your place. Sit down, and I’ll go check with Mr. Cole to see if he even has time to talk to you. Next time, follow the correct protocol, which is contacting me ahead of time.”

Ava’s gaze zones in, and I see her contemplating the venom she wants to spew in my assistant’s direction, but I speak first.

“No, Tasha, you need to know your place. I don’t expect you to talk like that to anyone coming into this office to see me, much less Miss Pierce. Do you understand me?” I ask, loud and clear, feeling Ava’s attention land on me.

Tasha nods.

“If that’s an issue for you, then we’ve got a problem, so tell me now, because she will be treated with nothing but respect from you. Clear?”

She nods again. “Yes, sir.”

I see the way Ava’s eyes narrow at her, her lips twisting, trying to hold back what she wants to say, so I say it for her.

“Don’t call me sir. Mr. Cole will do for you, Tasha.”

She lowers her gaze, sitting back down as Ava smiles a big, satisfied grin and walks toward me.

I wave for her to enter my office, shutting the door behind us, thankful for the automatic locking mechanism.

Ava’s hazel eyes, dark with lust, find mine. She’s turned on by the way I stood up for her.

“Put your hands on my desk,” I command, and like the good little brat she is, she listens.
