“House is gone, brother,” Chains answers, grimacing.

“Fuck.”

“Do you know who did it?” Camilla utters quietly, stepping closer and pressing her front to my side.

“Oh yeah, we know,” Fuse answers, nostrils flaring and anger radiating from him. “Security system in the house, as you know, has cameras.”

“You get ’em on that feed?” That system is always set when I’m not there. I don’t like surprises, and those cameras are an insurance policy in case something like this or a break-in happens.

“Yeah, stupid bitch was dumb enough to take her time.” Fuse scoffs, shaking his head.

“Helena?” I hazard a guess at asking.

“You got it,” Fuse confirms.

“Oh my God,” Camilla whispers no more than a breath. “You’ve got to be kidding me.” She tenses and backs away, eyes meeting mine. Those eyes of hers shimmering with tears welling but not falling. “Why would she do this?”

“Because she’s a gold-digging whore?” I throw out there a bit bitterly.

“But that doesn’t make sense.” Shaking her head, she takes another step back. “Her burning your house down doesn’t make sense, Lynch. I mean, yes, I agree, she’s a gold digger, but she burned your house for what?”

“It wasn’t just my house, Camilla,” I grunt, sick of her saying it’s my house, not ours. Turning fully to her, I cross my arms over my chest, doing my best to keep from reaching out to yank her back in my arms. “That house, I bought it because of you. I bought it before shit went sideways for us. I bought it and was gonna surprise you with it the next time you came home.” It’s hard to ignore her flinch of pain my words cause her. “It wasn’t just my house. It was ours. Your aunt wants to take everything away from you because she’s a bitch who can’t stand not getting her way. She couldn’t have me ‘cause I only wanted you. She didn’t like the fact she couldn’t get to me, so she drew a wedge between us.”

“What?” Camilla’s face pales all the more as I realize I have revealed something I swore I’d never tell her. I didn’t want to hurt her with the truth. “She wanted you?” she whispers and lets out a harsh breath. “Of course she did. I mean, look at you. You’re hot. Sexy. Of course, she’d want you for herself.” That last part has her curling her lip in disgust. “You’re right, Lynch, my aunt is one hell of a gold-digging whore.”

“Cams,” I state, reaching out toward her.

“No, Lynch.” She jerks away, hands up, shakes her head, and steps back farther. “Don’t right now. You deal with this.” Spinning on her heels, she darts away, her hair flying out behind her as she exits the clubhouse.

I start after her, but my uncle, Fury, stops me. “Give her a few minutes.”

“I need to go after her,” I grumble, eyes focused on the door Camilla just went through.

“Let me take care of her. You deal with this,” Fury remarks. “I’ll keep an eye on her until you finish here.”

I open my mouth to protest, but Chains stops me.

“Brother, let Fury go. We need you in here right now. Let him take care of your ol’ lady.”

Grinding my teeth, I give him a curt nod. “Fine. You let her know she can go in my room.”

“Got a key to it, I’ll unlock it for her,” Fury states, slaps a hand on my shoulder, and walks off to go in search of Camilla.

I return my attention to Chains and the others. “Do we know how bad the fire was?” I don’t give a fuck about the property itself, but Camilla’s clothes were in there. It was where I wanted us to grow, start a family. Now, that place is gone, but it doesn’t matter, not really. It’s a matter of being a part of my life with Camilla. With her back in my life, everything should be right again, but it won’t be, not until this situation is resolved.

“House is still standing, but firefighters were still working on it. From what I saw on the camera feed, she used an accelerant,” Fuse answers. “Fire’s not out completely yet, waiting to hear news about it.”

Great.

“Lynch,” Pitch Black calls. I shift my gaze to him to find him watching me closely. “You need to keep your head, brother, for what you’re about to hear.”

“What?” I demand.

“Remember the files we brought back from Perrin’s house?” Speed asks.

“Yeah,” I answer, straightening farther, feeling the tension in my body like I hadn’t ever felt before. “Why?”

“We know the man he was talking about in the letter is Pennington, but in those files, there’s one on Camilla. There’s also one about your mom and Harlow,” Chains explains and continues. “Not only did Ezra’s father, the first fuckwad of the two of them, kill your mom, but he had your dad killed as well. I don’t know what it is with jealous fuckers, but I’m tired of them. If it’s not one, it’s another.”
