“I don’t want to believe my aunt would do anything to hurt me, but she’d been really upset last night seeing us both together,” I start by saying and open my eyes once again to meet his. “She was there for me when I came unraveled. I was a mess, and she was there. But if what you said is true, then she was the one to hurt me the most. I can’t have that in my life.”

“Camilla, your aunt did what she did because she’s a gold-digging bitch,” he states, his lip curling in anger on my behalf. “She’s always been that way, you just didn’t want to see it. I saw it from the start, but I didn’t want my dislike for her to come between us. She was family, and I know what it means to have family around.”

I nod, knowing exactly what he’s talking about. His mom left him with his aunt and uncle when he was still a kid. They raised him along with his sister, whom I hadn’t ever met. By the time I came into his life, she was living in Virginia. The thought of his sister reminds me of the picture he showed me of her and the ones I’d held onto all these years. “How come you never showed me pictures of your sister? Or talked more about her?”

Lynch sighs and drops his hands as he looks to the ceiling. “When it comes to my sister, it’s hard to talk about. She went through hell, and it was best for her to get away, to move from here and start a new life. Only in the past few years or so have we really reconnected. She’s got a man now who would do anything for her. She’s happy, and that’s all that matters. I didn’t talk about her much at the time because, honestly, it hurt to talk about her.”

“I wish you had,” I whisper. There’s so much about him I don’t know, that I didn’t know even then.

“I should’ve, but I didn’t.” He shrugs and brings his gaze back to mine. “After what happened between us, Aunt Ela was the only one who got through to me. I don’t know if you remember or not, but my aunt’s got a gift, lotta people don’t believe in that shit, but I do. I was in a dark place, and part of me was stuck there until Lily.”

“Lily?” I try not to get jealous of him mentioning the name of another woman.

“Yeah, she’s Speed’s ol’ lady. You didn’t get a chance to actually meet her that day at the clubhouse, but when Harlow’s man’s club, the Devil’s Riot MC, asked us for a favor, to take her in, she became like family nearly instantly. She reminded me of my little sister in some ways before she left. She and I formed a bond. Guess you can say I adopted her as family, and that won’t ever change. She’s sweet and funny. Good for my brother. Lived a life of hell and needed someone just to treat her as a friend.”

“And you did that. Treated her as a friend.” I nod. What I don’t do is correct him on the fact I have indeed met Lily. She and Speed had come to the office after what happened to talk to me and make sure everything was actually legal.

“Not completely at first, but getting to know her, hearing her story, yeah, I did. We’d watch movies while she was laid up.” Lynch gets a grin on his face and squeezes my side. “I used to get a kick out of seeing Speed get annoyed when he’d find us chilled out, her talking to me.”

“I’m sure.” I give him a small smile, but a part of me is jealous. She’d gotten to know a part of Lynch that I used to have. His friendship.

“Baby,” he whispers, his palm coming to my cheek once again. “Lily’s family, just like the other ol’ ladies. You got nothing to worry about.”

“I don’t know what you’re talking about.” I scoff, doing my best to play it off.

“It might have been years, Camilla, but I know you. Better than you think I do,” he states, stroking his thumb over my cheek. “I’ve always known you, baby, never have I haven’t truly been able to read you.”

I divert my gaze, guilt eating at me for what I’ve put us both through.

“Camilla.”

“Why are you being so nice to me? Why would you still want me?”

“Because you’re my match,” he answers. No hesitation. “Because no matter how pissed I am that I lost time with you. It’s not just on you. It’s on me. Most of all, it’s because your aunt is a bitch and wanted to get between us and found a way to do so. We’ve got shit to deal with, Camilla. I know that, but this time around, I’m not letting you go. I’ll kill anyone who gets in the way of us.”

I part my lips to say something else, but Lynch’s phone rings.

“Fuck,” he grumbles, body tensing under me slightly. “Sorry, baby, but I’m gonna have to answer that.”

“It’s okay,” I murmur, licking my lip and pulling away, though he doesn’t let me get far.

I have a feeling he’s not going to ever let me get far from him again. A part of me, a big part, doesn’t seem to have a problem with this. Another smaller part of me is scared to death of what it means.

He says I’m his match, and in my heart, I know, without a doubt, he’s the one who’s always held my soul.

CHAPTER TEN

LYNCH

“Yeah,” I bark into the phone, not wanting to answer, but ringtone told me who was calling and it wasn’t his normal one. I’d set different ones for everyday use and for that of the burners we all carry as well. Those phones were strictly for emergencies or when shit’s going down and we’re needed for something. Otherwise, the call would have been ignored.

“Got a problem, Lynch, need you at the clubhouse,” Chains remarks and hangs up, not explaining further.

Great. Fan-fuckin-tastic. Just what I need, another fucking problem on top of the shitshow I’m already dealing with.

With everything I’m trying to focus on, it’s the last thing I need, but my club’s my family, and I need to see to that too. Pulling the phone from my ear, I turn toward Camilla. “Fun time’s over, baby, we gotta get to the clubhouse.”

“Why do I have to go?” she asks, scrunching up her nose.
