Violet approached hesitantly, her voice soft and soothing. “Kuana, breathe. Focus on me. Let it go.”

But it wasn’t that easy.

The anger, the guilt, the regret, all battled for dominance, threatening to tear me apart.

“Stay away!” I choked out, but Violet ignored me.

She reached closer, placing a gentle hand on my cheek.

“Look at me,” she whispered. “Remember who you are. Remember us.”

Her touch was like an anchor, grounding me, reminding me of a time before the secrets and the dangers.

Slowly, with her guiding me, the storm within began to subside.

The burning in my eyes lessened, and the weight on my chest lifted.

I slumped into the mattress, gasping for breath, Violet cradling my head in her lap.

“Shh,” she whispered, stroking my hair. “It’s okay. I’m here.”

I looked up at her, the world coming back into focus.

The remorse for my outburst weighed heavily on my shoulders.

“I’m sorry,” I murmured, the weight of my secret still pressing down on me.

Violet just held me tighter, and for now, it was enough.

The emotions that had threatened to consume me were now back under control.

But for how long?

VIOLET

The once dimly lit room had been awash with an ethereal violet light, emanating from the depths of Kuana’s eyes.

Every fiber of my being screamed that this was wrong.

So very wrong.

Kuana’s eyes had always been a deep, captivating shade of gold, but the brilliant violet that now consumed his gaze was unnatural, terrifying.

For a moment, I was paralyzed, ensnared by both the mesmerizing and unnerving glow.

That terror — cold, creeping, and unforgiving — washed over me, instantly dragging me back to another time.

A time when my heart was ripped apart by the mere thought that I had lost Kuana forever.

Flashes of that day bombarded my senses.

I remember the static-filled communication line, the deep, somber voice on the other end relaying the heart-shattering news of the facility Kuana had been tasked with infiltrating had been destroyed.

The desperation and disbelief that took root deep within, refusing to let me accept Kuana’s apparent demise.

Tears pooled in my eyes, threatening to spill over.
