I nodded and approached the back room where I could change.
The other girls were furious.
I loved it.

My cell door slid shut behind us.
I was alone with her once more.
Instead of the sheer dress, she wore a regular pair of jeans and a T-shirt with a flower on the front.
She couldn’t have looked more beautiful.
I sensed she felt a lot more comfortable this time around and immediately washed her hands in the bathroom.
“How about you take a shower while I cook us something to eat?” Ivy said. “You must be exhausted after the fight.”
“It didn’t last long.”
I’d seen the monster coming and wasted no time in shutting him down.
I was in no mood to waste time when I could be with Ivy.
“But it’s a good idea.”
I wanted to take her in my arms, kiss her, and thank her for being so kind.
But it felt a little awkward.
“I’ll, uh, leave you to it,” I said.
I moved into the bathroom and left the door open slightly so I could hear her clanging around in the kitchenette for the pots and pants.
Being the champ came with certain privileges.
I had the largest cell in the block and it came with a king-size double bed and a wardrobe of clothes.
I was offered first refusal on any objects brought into the prison to decorate my room with. I didn’t take advantage of most of it.
I could also use the workout room exclusively for one hour a day or share it with others. I tended to work out at night while most of the others were asleep.
I got undressed and turned on the shower.
I let the water wash over me, soothing me the way it always did.
This was my biggest treat. Hot running water every day.
I sometimes took three or four showers a day.
It reminded me of a memory I had of a waterfall cascading over my face and beating against my skin. It wasn’t as cold as I expected, but cool.
I had only a handful of memories of the world I originally came from. I was just too young when I was brought to this prison.
There was one thing I couldn’t feel at ease with yet and that was the knowledge that Ivy was in the next room.
