“Right.” I nodded and took her hand in mine, loving how tiny and soft it felt. “The pool is heated,” I said. “It shouldn’t be too bad, but if you want, I can heat up the hot tub and—“ I was rambling. Nerves had a hold on me. She stopped walking, and we stood at the edge of the pool.

“Rosa?”

“Oh, Malcom.” She giggled. “Hand me your phone and that expensive-looking watch.” I did as she asked, handing her anything she might want. She took them and set them on the lounger next to us. “That’s better.”

“Is it? But what about the water?”

“I don’t know. You tell me what you think.”

“What?” I frowned then suddenly, I felt her hands on my chest just before she pushed me into the pool.

Naturally, my arms wrapped around her. We both went in with a big splash. Cold water helped take the edge off my nerves, and when we pulled ourselves above water, her laughter wrapped around me, much like the woman still in my arms.

“Better?” she asked, her eyes shining.

“A lot.”

“You really need to practice the whole learning to have fun thing.” She grinned.

"You going to teach me?" I didn’t miss the sparkle in her eyes. Was I flirting? Did she like it?

“Hmm… depends.”

“On?”

“If you’re a good listener or not.” She laughed and swam out of my embrace. I adjusted myself under the water. There was something about the sly, sexy little look she gave me before dipping her head under the water that had me thinking she knew exactly what she did to me. I pulled my shirt off and tossed it to the side of the pool. She had no idea what a good listener I could be.

We swam and floated about for almost two hours. The sky had darkened and filled with stars that glittered above us.

But all good things had to come to an end, and that came when I noticed how her teeth started to chatter once a breeze kicked up. We sat in the hot tub for a moment to warm up before I got out and grabbed both of us towels. Not that I covered up until I had her all snuggled into a bath sheet.

“Better?” I asked, and she nodded.

“Did you have fun?” she asked, still shivering in my arms. I nodded.

“A lot, but I think I would always have a good time with you.”

“Hmm, you’re a charmer when you want to be,” she muttered, and I chuckled.

“When I wanna be?” I playfully pretended to be offended, and she pressed her lips together. Even under the moonlight, I could make out the way her cheeks blossomed into the prettiest shade of pink.

“I don’t know.” She shrugged, and when she looked down at my chest, I was glad I hadn’t covered up yet. Rosa’s eyes moved up to look at me, and she was so fucking beautiful, it was almost hard to breathe. “I was pretty sure you didn’t like me.” She stepped back, but I didn’t let her get too far. I wasn’t supposed to be rushing her or coming on too strong, but the daddy inside me couldn’t keep his hands to himself. I pulled her right into me. My eyes caught the terrycloth towel I’d wrapped her up in, and I envied it. How the hell could I be jealous of a towel?

“I never not liked you.”

“You watched me like you thought I was going to steal something.”

You did. The words were on the tip of my tongue, but I didn’t want to scare her away. Her eyes watched me for a moment.

“I’m sorry if I made you feel that way. That was never my intention. Not even close.” My voice sounded rough with emotion and regret. “But you’re right. I did watch you closely.” One of my hands moved up her arm and didn’t stop until I cupped her face.

“You did?” she whispered, and I nodded. My eyes dipped to her pretty mouth and that sexy-as-sin birthmark.

“You’re so beautiful it was hard not to. I mean, look at you. Jesus.” I exhaled jaggedly. “I’d watch you wondering how the hell you could actually be real.”

“Malcom—“

“I’m serious, baby girl. Daddy couldn’t stop staring at you because you’re so fucking pretty it almost hurts.”
