One moment, everything was too loud. So many things bounced inside my head, making everything such a tangled mess, I had no idea how I was going to straighten it out. Then his lips pressed against mine, and everything went quiet.

Peaceful.

Calm.

There was no noise or craziness. The only sound I could make out was the deep groan that vibrated from Red and right into me. Feeding my soul and soothing it at the same time. His lips were firm, dominating mine. And when his tongue swiped my lips, without a thought, my mouth parted, and he swept in.

His firm tongue delved in, and I clung to him like I couldn’t live without him. Our chests were pressed so close together, I doubted a breeze could fit between us.

“Red,” I moaned. I’d never been kissed like that. His lips danced against mine as his tongue sawed in and out of my mouth. His hands gripped my hips. I moaned, needing to be even closer, and my skin felt way too hot and tight against my body.

“Bug, you taste so damn good,” he growled as he pulled away, and when I looked up at him, his beautiful blue eyes seemed to glow in the darkness of his office. Somehow, the stillness in my mind held strong and my hands clung to the soft material of his shirt.

“Knew you would be sweet.” His nose brushed against mine, and my eyes fluttered shut. When his hands slid up my back, my body shuddered.

“Red,” I whispered against his lips, “I…” I had no idea what I wanted to say. I couldn’t believe what had just happened. I’d kissed my best friend, the boy who had turned into the man who had always unknowingly held my heart in his hands.

We’d kissed, and the whole thing was so much more than anything I could have ever experienced before. Redford had ruined me with one single wet kiss.

“Love how you say my name.”

“You do?” I asked. My brain was still hazy with lust.

“I do.” I felt his lips tip upward and forced myself to open my eyes.

God, he was so handsome. The soft lines at the edges of his kind eyes. The line of his nose. The bone structure of his face and jaw. All of it was the epitome of masculine beauty. And when you added his body? Fit yet thick, he was in better shape than some of his players.

“Hi,” I whispered and watched the smirk fade into the sweetest, gentlest smile I’d ever witnessed. There was something so potent about looking into his eyes that had always got to me, made me feel a little shy.

“Hello.” The deep sound of his voice made me shiver as I moved closed to him. His hand brushed my hair away from my face, and I wanted to close my eyes and melt back into him and get lost in another moment where all the reasons this shouldn’t make sense wouldn’t start to butt in.

Before I could do anything, he moved us through his office and didn’t stop until he sat me down on his desk and cupped my face. “You have no idea how many times I’ve walked into my office and imagined you right here, like this.”

“You have?”

“Over and over,” he groaned before pressing another kiss against my lips that ended too quickly for my taste.

I knew what I was doing. Kissing him, letting him carry me around like his own little plaything. It was wrong. There was so much to talk about, to think about, but in that moment, when he was finally letting me in, I couldn’t get myself to be the one who put a stop to things. Not when it felt like all my dreams were coming true.

“I can’t believe you’re really here,” he breathed. I rested my forehead against his. For a moment, we just breathed. In and out. Our shared air mingled, and everything inside of me felt warmer. Cozier. Safe.

And something came over me.

I pinched him.

“Ouch!” he exclaimed as he looked at me like I was a weirdo. “What was that?” He chuckled, and I giggled nervously.

“Now you know it’s not a dream.” My lips twitched, and he shook his head slowly, never letting go of my face.

“I don’t know about that. I always thought I dreamt you to life.” My eyes widened, and without trying, they rolled.

“Calm down, Savage Garden.” I sighed. “How did we get here?”

“You threatened to cut me—" I pressed my finger to his lips.

“That’s not what I meant.”

“I know.” His free hand moved and cupped the other side of my face before he tilted my head up. “We have a lot to talk about. Come home with me.”
