He stared at me like I had two heads. “I understand what the signs mean because I read the back of the tests before I bought them.”

“Franco, you bought the tests yourself?”

He nodded and walked over to the tests resting on the long countertop. “The plus sign means you’re pregnant.” Franco peered at each stick.

His eyes darted to mine. Slowly, they lit up. “We’re pregnant.” His arms flew out in front of him. “We’re having a baby!” he yelled at the top of his lungs.

I placed my hands over my nose and mouth. “Yes, Franco, we’re having a baby.”

“You looked so sad after you opened the door,” Franco said. His green eyes were full of happiness.

I shrugged. “Franco, you were so sure I was pregnant.”

“Kennedy, I read articles about all the pregnancy signs to look for. The sore nipples, morning sickness.”

My lips parted. “You knew about my morning sickness?”

“Of course.” Franco pressed his big palm against the side of my head. “I know everything about my beautiful wife, whom I’m obsessed with.”

I fell against his chest, smiling. “I’m so excited we’re having a baby. We have so much to do.”

My gaze met his.“We should get started decorating the nursery.”

“Both nurseries,” he stated.

My brows inched higher. “Two?”

“Yes. We’ll build one downstairs and turn one of the seven bedrooms upstairs into the second nursery.”

I smiled. “Franco, that’s great. Can’t wait to decorate.”

We were on our way to building our little family.

Franco and I had a busy life, but we’d manage.

My team worked out of Carter Empire Tower in downtown San Antonio, managing the day-to-day operations. Kitura, Damon, and Orson enrolled in college. They took night courses. They performed more weapon deals than drug deals. They realized they enjoyed working in the office more than handling risky drug deals. Damon and Orson were already tech savvy, so when they presented their idea to create our own bit coin, I was on board. Creating black wealth was one of my main visions. I was fortunate to have three people who never stopped believing in me in my life. There was never a dull day in the DeLuca household. There was always someone coming for our territory. Sometimes I accompanied Franco when he handled scum and other times, I attended my online college courses. I was determined to graduate with my Bachelors of Science in Business Administration.

“Come on. We’re missing the football game.” He tugged my hand until I hopped off the counter.

“Franco, you know my team’s going to win, right?”

He arched a brow. “As much as I don’t want to admit it. They will.”

We plopped on the cream-colored sofa. I crossed my legs and placed the large bowl of popcorn in my lap. Franco’s eyes stared at the TV screen, while his hand circled my stomach. Something he’d done since the night he stilled deep inside of me. Making sure his sperm reached my womb. I loved how determined he was to start a family with me. A smile took my lips as I stared at him. A man who was so afraid to love because of his marred flesh. The moment we got married, he smiled more. Who knew the missing piece in his life was...me.

Franco and Micaela sat on the other side of the counter chatting with Quinn and me while we cooked dinner.

Well, Franco more so chimed in every once in a while. His eyes were glued to his laptop screen. I stepped around the counter and slid a fork filled with grits and a plump shrimp on top into his mouth.

“I’ll never get tired of this dish,” he said as he savored the taste.

“Micaela, I can’t wait to dig into your seven up pound cake.” I licked my lips, walking back to the stove.

“Kennedy, you’ll love it. My mother won many baking contests with that recipe.”

I rubbed my belly. “This baby loves junk food. So we’ll definitely tear up your cake.”
