CHAPTER TWELVE

ZANDER

Victoria sat buckled into the passenger seat of my black Chevy Silverado, gazing out of the window. Her radiant brown hair cascaded over her winter white pea coat. Seeing her again sent blood rushing to my big vein.

I drove out of the parking lot and merged into traffic.

“A guy I hooked up with last year asked to hang out around the beginning of the school year. We went out.”

I gripped the steering wheel. My jaw ticked. Why the fuck was she telling me this shit? I didn’t want to hear about her fucking another guy.

“He asked if he could come up to my dorm room, I told him no. He even tried to kiss me and I turned away. There was no way I could hook up with another guy. You said you’d make it impossible for me to get over you. Fuck, Zander.” She gripped her hair.

I parked the truck in valet, hopped out and helped her out of the passenger side. Tossing the valet attendant, the keys, we strolled inside the hotel.

Five minutes later, we walked into the luxury suite. I peeled off her coat and tossed it in the chair.

“How long have you dated her?” she stepped over to the minibar.

“She’s not your girlfriend, because if she was, she’d never have left you and I alone. I know I wouldn’t.”

I shrugged off my coat, swiped my hat off my head, and threw them onto the chair.

Sitting on the tan sofa, I peered at her. My elbow dug into my knee as the side of my face rested in my palm.

“Nope she’s not my girlfriend.”

Vicky strutted toward me in her designer black stiletto boots. She placed a vodka on the rocks in my hand and sat beside me. Vicky was my fucking weakness. And she knew it. Sipping the harsh drink, I peeked at her from the corner of my eye.

“What have you been up to?” She sipped the spice rum.

I placed my low-ball glass on the table, then pulled her leg into my lap. “You do realize these aren’t winter boots?” I unzipped the tall boot that hugged her calf.

“I’m aware, Zander. Their cute.”

I smirked, sliding the boot from her foot, and dropped it to the floor.

“Zander.”

“Don’t, Victoria.”

Her mouth fell open. I unzipped and slipped off the other boot.

“You know I love you.”

I slipped my fingers through my long hair that brushed my shoulders. “No, I don’t. I made up with your brother over Thanksgiving break.”

“He told me. Hayden also said he asked you to come over for Christmas dinner and you declined.”

“I spent the holidays alone on Venice Beach.”

“Oh, you went back.” She tucked her legs under her bottom.

“You said the last six months was difficult for you. Shit, it was fucking unbearable for me. Wasn’t the smartest idea to travel to the place where my heart was shattered.” I glanced at her.

“Just because I am here doesn’t mean, I will fuck you. Not going to happen. I am trying hard to move on.”

She snickered. “Ok, Zander.”
