She ran her fingers through her long blonde hair. “Do you want to get food?” Summer asked, batting her long pretty eyelashes.

“Yeah, sure.”

It was midafternoon. Another dreary winter day in Princeton, New Jersey.

She sat up, tossing her feet over the side of the bed. I flung a T-shirt over my head.

“Summer, what do you have a taste for?”

She slid on her boots. “Pizza.”

“Sounds good.”

Knock, knock.

Maybe it was Kerby. He was a football teammate.

I swung open the door.

No one could prepare me for that moment. My heart sank to my feet. The small piece of my heart I had left that is. She already crushed it. Vicky warned me she would. I was stupid for thinking she’d call a day after being apart, but nope.

What the fuck do you do when the woman you’ve been in love with for years appears out of the blue? And the new girl who wants you badly to make her your woman were in close proximities.

“Hello, Zander. How are you?” Her beautiful smile rose and fell.

“Victoria, what are you doing here?”

“I need to talk to you.”

“Why didn’t you call? Shit, forgive me.” I stepped back. “Come in.” Vicky narrowed her eyes at Summer as she entered.

What did Vicky think I was pining away for her? Fuck no. I had to move on somewhat?

I had no desire to fuck another woman. As beautiful as Summer was, she wasn’t Vicky.

“Summer, this is my best friend’s sister, Victoria.”

“Hello, Victoria.” She flashed a fake smile and waved.

Vicky’s arms crossed her chest, and she glared at Summer. Never saying a word.

Typical Vicky.

“Summer, can I call you later?”

She shrugged on her jacket. “Yeah.” Summer leaned up and kissed my lips.

“Nice meeting you, Victoria,” she smirked, turning on her heels exiting the room.

Vicky tossed her hair over her shoulder, then stepped to the window.

I closed the door.

“What the fuck was that, Victoria?”

“You know what I hate about the east coast?

The snow. It’s almost constant in the winter months.”
