CHAPTER NINE
He led me out of our suite and to the elevator with his hand around my waist.
He kissed me again, deeply and passionately, on the ride down.
We were an hour late to dinner, but it was a lavish meal with several courses, and it seemed to me we hadn’t missed much as a server led us to our assigned seats.
I looked around the massive banquet hall.I wasn’t sure what I was expecting for the evening, but the amount of people attending the dinner was almost overwhelming.
“I don’t think I’ve ever attended a wedding this big,” I murmured to Kashnikov, who walked next to me, his hand still wrapped around my waist like it was attached there.
“Sheila is very competitive.Everything she does has to be the best and the biggest.Just wait until tomorrow.There will be twice as many attending the wedding itself.”
He kept talking to me in that dark, gorgeous accent of his, explaining the evening, and that this event was a welcome dinner for all the wedding guests who’d traveled from all over the world to be there.
Throughout the meal, people went up to the long bride and groom’s table, which was set up on an extravagant dais, and gave sweet, sappy speeches to the audience about how they’d met the smiling couple.
“Don’t they usually do all of the speeches at the wedding reception?” I asked Kashnikov, voice pitched low, for his ears only.
“She has twenty bridesmaids,” he spoke back in a low-pitched croon.“He has twenty groomsmen.I guess they needed two nights to get all of the speeches out of the way.”
I watched Kashnikov.Watched him watch her with a stony expression.I wished like hell I could read him enough to know what he was thinking.What he was feeling.
I quickly grew tired of that, and decided to distract him.To distract us both.
We were sitting side by side in one of the large, circular tables toward the center of the large room.
I inched closer to him in my chair, reaching a hand under the white table cloth to grip his thigh.
His muscles jumped under my hand, his eyes snapping to me.
I smiled at him and rubbed softly, stroking him from mid-thigh to knee through his slacks.I repeated the motion, then did it again.
He grinned and leaned in close.His voice was a rasp in my ear, as though he were telling me a dirty secret.It got me unbelievably hot.“It makes me wild when you touch me.Be careful when you do it in public.Having an audience won’t stop me from touching you back.I’m just giving you fair warning.”

It went on for some time.I couldn’t have said how long, his kisses made me nearly mindless, but when he finally pulled back and started kissing my neck, I had to fight for a long time to even form a coherent thought.
“Aren’t we being too obvious?” I finally whispered to him.I was panting.“She has to know you’re just doing this to make her jealous.”
He pulled back from my neck, giving me very direct eye contact as he smiled warmly.“If I’m being honest, I haven’t even given her a thought since you touched my leg.”
“Oh,” was all my smitten, befuddled brain could come up with before he started kissing me again.
His hands didn’t wander, staying firmly in my hair and at my hip.But his mouth was positively obscene.
