Whoop! Whoop!

“Fuck,” I scoffed, tugging my hair back.

“The cops are raiding the house!” Alexis panicked, fervently nodding. “We have to go. I know of a secret passage back there, but we have to leave now!”

I darted toward the stairs, immediately hearing the chaos that was erupting in and outside of the estate. It wouldn’t take long for them to find us.

Hauling ass back to them, I snatched Bailey’s purse off the ground.

“What are you doing?”

I ignored Bailey’s question and grabbed the small plastic bag with the remaining drugs in it.

“Go!” I ordered.

Bailey shook her head. “What about you?”

“I’ll distract them. Go!”

She adamantly resisted. “Not without you.”

“Bailey!” Alexis exclaimed, tugging her toward the secret exit. “We have to go, or we’re literally going to be front-page news!”

I could hear the pounding of the cop’s footsteps coming up the stairs. “Go!”

“Bailey!” Alexis kept trying to yank her to move. “Come on! Think of your career! Everything you’ve worked so hard for! We have to go before it’s too late!”

Bailey reluctantly did, and with a pained look in her eyes, she mouthed to me, “I’m so sorry.”

After I watched them disappear down the hidden backway, adrenaline pumped wildly through my veins, and it was the only thing I could focus on. I felt every fight-or-flight response known to man in a short time.

I was about to run toward the edge of the roof deck to toss out the drugs, but I wasn’t fast enough. By the time I took a step, the cops stormed onto the roof deck, and I had no choice in the matter.

It was her or me.

And I chose her.

Needing to cause a scene and a distraction to give them more time to get away, I roared, “Son of a bitch!” Whipping back around, I arrogantly spewed, “What the fuck is your problem?”

I don’t know how long I went on like this until I saw a sheriff coming for me out of the corner of my eye.

“Motherfucker—” The officer threw my ass face-first onto the concrete floor, and I instantly saw stars.

After he handcuffed me, he read me my rights, “You have the right to remain silent. Anything you say can and will be used against you in a court of law. You have the right to an attorney?—”

“An attorney?” I mocked as he lifted me. “Do you know who I am?”

“If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be provided for you?—”

“If I can’t afford one? Do you have any idea who the hell I am? I’m Nicholas Aires III! I’m a fucking legend!”

He ignored me. “Do you understand the rights I have just read to you? With these rights in mind, do you wish to speak to me?”

“Yeah, I’m speaking to you right now! Your ass is going to be fired by the time I’m through with you! Do you hear me? You’re fucking done in this town! I’ll make sure of it!”

Another cop patted me down, finding exactly what I knew he would. I couldn’t risk Bailey getting caught with five felonies on her, so I willingly took the fall for her.

“Sheriff,” the cop announced, nodding to him. “That’s Nicholas Aires’s son.”
