“Nothing,” I answer, getting the tequila for us.

“Nothing? We walked in on the two of you playing happy families. There was no benefit to either of your causes,” Val adds.

“We know what cause,” Rocco mumbles.

I flip him off. “That’s my wife, dude,” I say as he rolls his eyes at me.

“Looks like things have changed between the two of you. Have they?” Nico asks.

I let out a sigh, I can’t lie to my boys, plus, I kind of need to talk about it as I’m up in my head. Last night we had so much fun at The Paradise Club, then this morning we spent it in bed, lazing around. She was reading while I was scrolling on my phone in comfortable silence, like a real married couple, and it was nice, especially since we spent the day before fucking.

“Guess you could say that,” I answer. My family stares at me in bewilderment.

“Didn’t think he was going to cop to it so easily.” Rocco chuckles.

“What does this mean?” Val asks.

I shrug. “Nothing, it means nothing. We both know it is what it is, and once this deal is done, we’re both going to go our separate ways.”

“Wait, what?” Val questions.

“You’re going to just let her go?” Nico asks.

“There’s nothing I can do. She’s a Fiorenzo and I’m a Conti,” I explain. The boys just stare at me. “What?” I ask them.

“What do you think you’re doing now? You’re a Conti and a Fiorenzo already together. That doesn’t make sense unless it’s a convenient excuse not to pursue anything,” Val states.

“An excuse? Any man would be lucky to have Natalia Fiorenzo by their side. Do you seriously think my father is going to put up with her being there? You think her family is going to welcome me with open arms to a family function? Think about it,” I yell at my cousin.

They sit there in silence as I hand them each a glass.

“My question is, if you take all that out, do you want this marriage to work?” Nico asks.

“I’m not going to wonder about what ifs, I can’t change the situation no matter how much I may want to,” I confess to them.

“You’re not even going to try?” Val pushes.

I shake my head. “She’s told me what she wants and it’s not happily ever after with me.” The boys don’t say anything to that. “Come on, let’s go lose some money,” I tell them.

We head back into the dining room where the poker table is set up and take our seats.

“Everything okay?” she asks.

“Yeah, all good,” I tell her, leaning over and kissing her cheek. She gives me a tiny frown but doesn’t push any further.

“Right, well everything is ready for you. I must run upstairs and get ready and then I’ll be out of your hair, okay,” she explains before disappearing.

Val gives me a look that tells me that the conversation from earlier isn’t over as I take my seat back at the table.

“Okay, let’s play,” I say, clapping my hands together.

We get through a couple of rounds before Natalia comes down the stairs. Val wolf whistles as she enters the room, making her blush. I send him a warning glare which makes him smirk right back at me.

“My car is here. Have fun,” she says, walking toward me. She’s dressed in a gorgeous silver body-fitting dress that hugs every inch of her gorgeous body, her tanned long legs are on display thanks to the hem that just covers her ass. Her chocolate hair is pulled up in a ponytail. She looks like a sexy robot. My sexy robot. Maybe we need to pause this poker game, and the boys need to crash girls’ night.

Standing up, I meet her halfway and place my hand on her hip. “You look good,” I whisper to her.

She gives me an approving smile as she places a hand on my chest. “Have fun,” she says before going to move away, but my fingers dig into her hip, holding her in place. She turns back and stares at me with surprise.
