“And I told you I would unless she didn’t want me to. FYI, she doesn’t want me to.” I grin at him, seeking pleasure in the flare of his nostrils and the clenching of his fists.

“Everything, okay?” Natalia asks.

“I’m going to our table.” Gio huffs and storms off. Paige says her goodbyes and follows him.

“What happened?”

“He wasn’t thrilled that he caught us kissing earlier.”

“Oh,” she says as her cheeks blush with the memory.

“I told him I wasn’t going to stop kissing you,” I declare.

“Really, now?” She smirks.

“Yeah, really,” I tell her.

NATALIA

“That went better than I thought it would,” I say as we walk out of the gala and toward our waiting car.

“If you mean the death stares across the table from your brother all night.”

At least they were stares and not actions,” I joke.

“True.” He smiles as our car arrives, opens the door for me, and I get in and he follows. The vehicle takes off and heads back home. Home? How strange that I’m now starting to think of Alessandro’s place as home. It might be time I went back to my apartment soon just to shake things up a bit.

He reaches out and entwines our hands together as he continues to look out the window of the car as if it’s second nature for him. I hate the giddy feeling it gives me. I shouldn’t like it. But I do. Testing the waters, I lay my head on his shoulder and curl into him, which he lets me. The next thing I know, my eyes become heavy.

“Natalia, we’re home,” Alessandro whispers gently, rocking me awake. I quickly wipe my face in case I was slobbering all over him and shake myself. He holds out his hand for me to take to get out of the car and I gladly take it. My feet wobble on the cobblestone driveway in my heels, and he catches me. Next thing I know, he is lifting me up into his arms and carrying me inside.

“What are you doing?” I squeal as my feet leave the ground.

“You seem tired so I thought I would carry you,” he says as he continues to walk toward his front door.

“You don’t have to. I’m probably heavy,” I tell him as I wiggle in his arms.

“You are when you wiggle like a worm.” He chuckles.

“A worm?”

He opens the front door before kicking it shut behind him and then continues to walk through the dark house. “What else wiggles like that? A limp bit of spaghetti, would that have been better?”

“Slightly.” I grin as I enjoy his strong arms around me. No man has lifted me up and carried me to the bedroom before. The bedroom.

“Are you okay?” he asks, noticing my mood change.

I bite my bottom lip. “You’re carrying me to the bedroom.”

“Yeah, and?”

“I … um …”

“Don’t read into this, Fiorenzo. I can still be a dick to you,” he adds.

“Phew, I was worried for a moment, that I had stepped into the twilight zone with you being all charming and stuff,” I joke.
