“I see you remember me.” I can’t help the smile that spreads across my face. “Do you also remember what I told you the last time I saw you?”

He shakes his head as I hold out my hand to Will. Flipping open the blade he pulled from Adam’s pocket earlier, he places it in my palm.

“I told you,” I plunge the blade into his gut, “I would fucking kill you for touching her.”

Pulling out the blade, I sink it through his flesh again and again. His stomach. Chest. Neck. Thigh. Over and over. Not stopping until I can barely lift my arm. His dead, lifeless body only standing because William and Edmund are holding him up for me.

My hand is covered in his blood, and crimson splatters of him cover my arm and formerly white undershirt. Closing the ruby-red knife, I place it in my pocket as Will and Edmund drop Adam into the abyss behind him.

“I’ll fill it in.” William nods at us. “Get him back home before Cora realizes he’s gone.”

The ride back to my place in Edmund’s car is silent, not a word spoken between us. Words aren’t needed.

I would do the same for him.

Grant.

Liz.

No questions asked if someone dared take something that belonged to one of them.

Sneaking back into the house with the same stealthiness I used to leave, I’m hoping to get showered and back in bed without waking Cora. I’ll deal with disposing of any evidence in the morning.

“Where did you go?” Her voice is soft and concerned as I step through the threshold to our room.

A bright light and her terrified gasp fill the room when she flips on her bedside table.

CHAPTER FORTY-EIGHT

CORA

“Sam—” My voice trembles at the sight of him. His hands are red. It stains his shirt where it must have splattered across him and where he tried to wipe his hands clean. His face is freckled with droplets of dried blood.

It's fucking everywhere.

“Wh…where did you go?” I ask even though I’m terrified of the answer.

“It’s not what you think, love.” I shake my head as I pull the bloody shirt from my body. “I did this for you.”

“For me?” My voice rises as he walks toward the bathroom as though he just returned from a late-night jog. “What the fuck did you do?”

Reaching into his pocket as he walks, he tosses something onto the bed and disappears into the bathroom. He turns on the water as I hesitate to reach for whatever is at the end of the bed.

Taking a deep breath, I reach down and wrap my hands around the cool metal. The moment I touch it, I know it is.

Adam’s switchblade.

It’s covered in dried blood. The same blood that Samuel is stained crimson with.

He killed him.

Sliding from the bed, I head into the bathroom and slip into the shower behind him. Wrapping my arms around him, I place my forehead against his back. “I’m sorry… I just…. I just thought…”

“I’ve told you, love.” He turns to face me, and his hands slide along my jaw as he tips my face up to his. “You’re all I need.”

His lips crash into mine as he pulls my face into his. Parting my lips, his tongue darts between them and sweeps over mine, and he drags me under the stream of water with him. The droplets rain over us as he kisses me until I am beyond breathless.

The sins of the night trickle down our bodies, scarlet water swirling at our feet as he grips my thighs and drives me into the cool marble wall of the shower.
