Damn, I love this man so much.

The game ends with a two-to-one win for our boys, and my body sags in relief when it’s finally over. They receive a silver cup in the middle of the stadium. After posing for a flurry of pictures, they haul the trophy around the pitch, showing it off under a sky of blue fireworks. Finally, the ceremony comes to a close, and the families can go down on the pitch. Before I know it, I’m in Wade’s arms.

“I’m so proud of you,” I say against his lips. “You were amazing.”

“Told you I’d score twice.” A lopsided smile forms on his face as we break apart.

I can’t even call him out on his cockiness, because he was right. “You did. I’m so happy for you.” I squeeze him in a tight embrace.

“I can’t wait to celebrate with you,” he murmurs in my ear, sending shivers through my body.

“Me neither.”

Parting from me with a wink, he steps away to take some pictures with his nephews and the trophy. I don’t think I’ve ever experienced this much joy. Smiles grace every pair of lips, a flush on every cheek. My heart thumps so hard in my chest, it’s like I’ve just come alive for the first time.

Wade leaves our group for a moment to go talk to the manager of Real Madrid and a few of the players. Meanwhile, we congratulate the other players on our team while taking in the view of this incredible stadium.

Once the frenzy dials down, Piper and the kids head back to the hotel—Everett started to get fussy since it’s way past his bedtime—and I stay with Wade. We celebrate some more with his teammates and their families before taking the van back to my hotel.

In the elevator, Wade can’t keep his hands to himself. He’s all over me, and I welcome every touch. We make out all the way to my hotel room door and up to my bedroom. Wade flicks on the light so we can find our way to the bed. Once there, he takes his shirt off, revealing his perfect abs as I fall onto the silky purple sheets. He kisses my neck with fervour while my hands travel across his muscled back. He caresses my cheek and proceeds to remove my shirt—

“Wait, get the light,” I breathe out, unable to quell my insecurities even in a moment like this.

He pushes off me and caresses my cheek like he always does. “Let me see you, please. You’re beautiful.” He rakes my body with hooded eyes. “Gorgeous, lush, exquisite, dazzling . . . I want to see all of you.”

His words empower me, and I’ve never felt this sexy in my entire life.

Lights on it is.

The Other Shoe

“Morning,” Wade rumbles, rolling over and tugging me to his side. “Sleep well?”

“Uh-huh.” I tuck my face into his warm neck, and he kisses me on the forehead. My first night with Wade exceeded all my expectations. And believe me, they were big.

“I wish you could come back with me today,” I say.

Wade has to stay in Paris until tomorrow. They’re doing press conferences and recovery routines today.

“Me too. I’ll come over to yours tomorrow night. Will you be able to wait until then?” he asks, planting kisses all over my face.

“Gee. I don’t know. It’s so far away,” I say in jest.

He grabs me by the waist, and I end up straddling him. I lean down to kiss him, but he starts to tickle me. My entire body sparks with laughter as I squirm. I fight him off the best I can, coming up for air in between giggles until we both tumble off the bed and onto the plush carpet.

There’s a short silence, and then we both burst into laughter. “Are you okay?” I ask. I sigh in mock seriousness. “Thank goodness the season is over.”

He laughs harder and pats my back. “I’m fine. Are you?” He draws me closer and kisses my head.

“Uh-uh.” I rest my forehead on his chest, the rhythm of his heart soothing me.

I go on, “It’s funny. I’ve been waiting for the other shoe to drop since we started dating for real, but so far, it hasn’t.” My voice is muffled by the position I’m in.

“What do you mean?”
