Empty.

I checked out the kitchen.

Empty.

Maybe he’s outside with Gabriel?

I ran towards the window.

Nothing.

He’s gotta be in his room then.

I raced down the hall towards Lucifer’s room. I wanted to tell him about the ridiculous dream that I had. I wanted to see him laugh at how ridiculous it was while I curled up next to him. But his room was empty.

It wasn’t a dream. He was gone. His room was empty except for the bed in the middle of the room. Everything was empty. Except for the closet. Where a single black shirt lay on the ground. A piece of him here to haunt me. I grabbed the shirt and changed into it. His scent of tobacco, vanilla, and warm spice still lingered on it. I crawled into his bed and folded the covers over myself. Alone. Once again.

Everything’s going to be okay.

Eventually.

Chapter 18

Gabriel’s POV

“Catalina, I’m back, the store was out of hot chips so I got the regular ones. I hope that’s okay.”

Silence.

“Catalina?”

I placed the bags down on the counter and walked towards her room.

There’s no way she’s still asleep.

Her door was open and I peeked my head inside.

Empty.

Maybe she’s reading.

I turned back towards the library.

It’ll be a good sign if she’s reading.

I opened the door to the library.

Empty.

Where the hell was she?

“Catalina?”

I knew she wasn’t out. Her car was still parked outside and her purse was still sitting on the chair in the kitchen. She had to be around here somewhere. I checked every room in the house. All except one.

I made my way down the rest of the hallway.
