“Nope. I’ve got a couple of days off.”

“Then it’s a date,” he murmurs, bending down to kiss me.

I take his kiss and sigh with contentment when he pulls away. “Dom, I know yesterday was bad for you. I don’t want you to think for one minute that I don’t understand that. Still, last night in our new bed and making love to you, plus this morning, has been heaven for me. It feels like every dream I’ve ever had has come true.”

“Same, baby.”

“If I’m dreaming, I’d appreciate it if you don’t wake me up.”

“Trust me it’s not a dream. This is much, much better.”

“You sound so positive.”

“That’s because I am. You can’t tell me you don’t feel how right this is, Thea,” he replies, his voice quiet, deep, but vibrating.

“I do, but you spent years with…in your last relationship. It might be too soon to?—”

I can’t finish because Dom kisses me, stopping me from saying anything else. I lose myself in his kiss and the way his hands move over my body. I don’t want to think about the love he once held for Gabby. Part of me is terrified he’ll fall back into her trap. The only plan I have is to love him so hard that if she tries to get her claws back into him, he will somehow love me the way I’ve always loved him. I know that’s probably nothing more than a pipe dream, but it’s the only plan I’ve got.

When I feel Dom’s hand caress between my legs and his fingers enter me, all thoughts flee. For right now, the only thing that matters is right here—right now.

Chapter 36

Dom

“I got it,” I yell to Thea as the doorbell rings.

Thea’s in the kitchen making dinner. I helped her put together the ingredients for a homemade pizza. We work well together. My woman is also damn happy. Knowing I’m the reason she’s like that makes me feel like a fucking king. The rest of my life may be fucked up right now, but my relationship with Thea surpasses everything I ever dreamed I wanted. Every day I wake up worrying it will go all to hell, only to find that it seems to get better. It has become nothing but apparent that I’ve wasted my life so far on a woman who I thought made my life better but made it miserable.

“Okay, baby,” she calls back and a goofy as hell smile blooms on my face.

That’s something she’s just started. She said it last night while I was thrusting into her. I found it just made me harder and desperate to make her say it again. I can feel my dick wake up just from thinking about a replay of last night.

I open the door and immediately my mood changes. Dad is standing there staring at me, his face stern and not giving a clue as to what he is thinking. “What are you doing here?”

“We need to talk.” His words come out like a slow rumble. It’s a tone that has struck fear in countless people. It just manages to tick me off.

“How did you find me?”

“Even though it’s getting damn crowded and tries to be a city, it’s still a small town, Dom. Are you going to let me in or are we going to have our pissing match outside for your neighbors to hear?”

“I have my woman inside. I don’t want her upset.”

“I’m not leaving until we talk.”

I step back, and Dad puts his foot in the door. “I may be old, son, but if you slam the door on me, you won’t like how it turns out.”

“Ask me if I give a fuck. I’m going to let you in, but if you do one thing to upset my woman, you’ll regret it. And trust me, Dad, that’s a promise I can deliver on.” I stand back and he comes in.

“Choosing a woman over your family again. I guess at least this time it’s a woman worth it.”

“Thea’s putting dinner together. I figure we have ten minutes. So, get it over with so you can leave.”

“You think King is my son.”

“Don’t you? I heard the panic in your voice when you were talking to Bull after King saved T. Word of advice, Dad, if you’re going to discuss shit, close your damn office door.”

“I’m not sure. I’m trying to talk to the bastard, but he hates me.”
