“No. Not at all, Rosanna. I’m Piper, and we’re simply trying to find a man that looks like this,” she said, holding up the phone. The woman nodded.

“I think that’s him. I only saw him briefly leaving his hotel room. When I saw the bloodied sheets, I asked the housekeeper what happened. She said the man said he’d bumped the back of his head, but that was a lot of blood.”

“Is the housekeeper here?” asked Frank. The woman just stared at him. “Sorry, I’m Frank. I work with Piper.”

“She is. Let me see if I can get her to meet us down here.” Using her walkie-talkie, she paged the housekeeper. “Lucianna? Lucianna, can you please meet me in the lobby?” There was silence, and the woman just smiled at them.

“Do they normally respond right away?” asked Bodhi.

“Usually,” frowned the woman. “Lucianna?”

“I’m here,” said the voice. “Is everything alright?”

“Yes. Please come to the lobby. Some people are asking questions about the guest in room 1289.”

“O-okay.” The team stared at one another, not liking the sound of the woman’s voice. Frank turned to them.

“Bodhi, take Ethan to twelve. Check out that room.” The two men took off up the stairs, knowing they’d beat the old elevator to the twelfth floor. Besides, if the housekeeper were warning the man, he’d take the stairs as well.

“What’s happening?” asked Rosanna. Frank looked at her, shaking his head.

“I’m not sure. But we’re about to find out.”

CHAPTER TWENTY-FOUR

“I’ve enjoyed my time with you,” said Lucianna.

He smiled at her, kissing her again. He couldn’t get enough of her sweet, plump lips and the way she wrapped her body around his own. She was larger than the average Korean woman, but he loved the feeling of her.

At first, he’d been hesitant to continue a relationship with her, thinking it would only be one time. But he craved her. Wanted her more and more. It gave him some comfort to know that she’d originally immigrated from Costa Rica. In his mind, that told him she wasn’t really an American, in spite of her new citizenship.

“I have enjoyed my time with you as well. But I don’t know how much longer I can stay,” he said. He didn’t expect to feel the stabbing pain in his gut as he said it.

“I understand,” she said, smiling at him. “I knew it wouldn’t last forever. I know we said no names, but I’m Lucianna.” He kissed her.

“U-Jin. Or you can just call me Johnny.”

“I like U-Jin,” she whispered against his neck, running her tongue along his throat then up to his ear. The crackle of her two-way radio made her jump, giggling.

“Lucianna? Lucianna, can you please meet me in the lobby?” She stared down at U-Jin, frowning.

“That’s my supervisor. I have to answer.” He nodded as she sat up on the side of the bed.

“Lucianna?”

“I’m here,” she said softly. “Is everything alright?”

“Yes. Please come to the lobby. Some people are asking questions about the guest in room 1289.”

“O-okay.” She turned to U-Jin. “Go. Leave.”

“Go where?” he said, staring at her. “I have nowhere else to go. If they find me here, I’m dead.”

“Go to my apartment,” she said, writing the address on the notepad beside the phone. “Quickly. Leave everything, and I’ll bring it later.”

He dressed as fast as he could, grabbed his one small bag with his weapon, and kissed the woman with ferocity.

“Go,” she whispered.
