“They are going to be pissed.”

“Eh, we’ll already be seated.”

“And if they don’t seat us?”

“I have a backup plan. You know I always have a backup plan.”

“I know you do,” she says, giggling.

Fuck, I love that giggle. I dream about that giggle. That giggle has gotten me through some of the worst times in my life.

The meal we have is lovely, but after dinner, we walk along the National Mall hand in hand. We haven’t done this since we moved here. We hated Baltimore, but I aged out of the system before she did. I practically kidnapped her to ensure her safety. There was no way in hell I was leaving her in that group home without me. We thrived, though. I was so fucking thankful they let her fall through the cracks with me. With GEDs in hand, we applied to colleges and were accepted. We’ll be paying student loans till we die, but we got the educations we both wanted. Back at home, I kiss her good night despite my need to claim her again. We have the rest of our lives for that.

CHAPTER SEVEN

MAY

TWO DAYS LATER

DATE TWO

This is so silly. I think to myself, shaking my head. I have changed my clothes ten times for this damn date, and we are only going to the park. I use the word only lightly. We are going to my favorite park, the one covered in Japanese Cherry Blossoms. I just think they are the most beautiful flowers in the world when bunched together.

I should have been ready twenty minutes ago, but everything I put on seems wrong. Poor Logan he is being so patient. Knock. Knock. Well, he was being patient. Tightening my robe, I open the door, and my mouth gapes open at how fucking sexy he looks in a plain white T and some jeans.

“Babe, are you alright in here?” he asks, peeking his head over me and looking into the room. “Did you have a bit of an issue?” he chuckles when he says it because it is obvious I have been going through a thing. Instead of answering him, I lick my lips until I hear him groan. When I look up, he is looking at me, and I can feel the flush spreading over my face. His hand brushes my cheek and falls to my shoulder that is exposed. “I love that I know that flush spreads everywhere, baby,” he whispers in my ears. Goosebumps move up my entire arm, causing me to shiver. “Now, tell me what's wrong.” God, I love his bossy voice.

“I can’t find anything to wear.” Shrugging my shoulders it almost sounds like I whine the answer. He simply shakes his head and pulls me into his arms.

“You could wear a rug, and I would still think you are the most beautiful girl in the world,” he says so earnestly that when I look into his eyes, my body melts into him, and my forehead falls onto his chest.

“Logan,” I say, so embarrassed but also filling up with all the feels.

“What? It’s true. You have always been my beautiful, sweet, smart girl. My best friend. My reason for being a good person. My May. Mine.” Mine is the last thing he says before he pulls my chin upward and takes my mouth in a slow, deliberate kiss. The slide of his tongue into my mouth forces whimpers of desire from my mouth. He pulls me further into him, and my hands go to his chest.

Together, we explore and make promises with this kiss. There are no words, no rushed, erratic movements, just this moment together. My arms are wrapped around his neck, and I can feel him harden when it pushes against my belly. I move closer to him, enjoying the feeling of knowing I am doing this to him.

“Fuck, baby,” he says, pulling back and kissing my nose. “If we don’t stop now, I am going to make you remember that night.” Ha, that is comical. It is not something I can forget. Kissing me one more time, he walks into a room, picks up a white t-shirt and my jeans, the same shade as his, and hands them to me. “Wear this, baby. And put it on fast before I can no longer ignore the fact that you are standing in front of me practically naked.”

To make his point, he runs his finger under my bra strap, and that is the first time I realize my robe has completely opened. He is looking at me like a prime rib, and I won’t lie; I want to spread out and let him eat me. Literally. Instead, I nod my head.

“Give me five minutes.” He nods and walks out of the room, but not before giving me one last lingering look.

Once I am finally dressed, it takes fifteen minutes to get to the park, but by the time we make it, I am not hungry, and neither is he, so we walk hand in hand through it. Every now and again I look over at him to find him already looking at me. Smiling, he rubs my hand with his thumb.

“Tell me something I don’t know about you,” he says, swinging our hands up and down. My mind goes completely blank because I can’t think there is anything I haven’t told him. Since I was eleven years old, he has been my confidante. Then, something hits me. I stop to look at him, and given how freaking tall he is, I have to look up. Smiling he lifts me onto a rock, so I am eye to eye with him. God, the way he picked me up makes me feel tiny and I love more than I should. “So, tell me something I don’t know.” Biting my lip, feeling really vulnerable. It takes me a minute, and instead of saying anything, he lifts my face and smiles. “Do you want me to go first?”

“Yes,” I tell him honestly, relaxing my shoulder.

“That’s easy. I knew from the moment you walked into the foster home that you were going to be my wife.” I begin to laugh, thinking he is joking, but when I look at him, he is dead serious.

“Logan, you can’t be serious.” He moves closer to me and holds me to his chest.

“I knew, May. I was young and could barely find my ass from a hole in the wall but that I knew bone deep, which is why I never let you go to a new foster home without me.”

“I-I always hoped you would be my forever,” I admit, blushing down to my toes.

“Baby look at me.” I raise my head and look into the eyes of the man I love.
