Yazmine giggles. “Your sister told me.”

“That’s one thing I can thank her for,” I titter. “But I didn’t properly thank you for this. So, thank you, my angel.”

“You already thanked me that day, don’t you remember?”

“I did?”

Yazmine blushes. “You er—you kinda did.”

“How so?” I raise a brow curiously despite the sense of awareness rushing through me. I know where this is headed. It’s just fun seeing her blush so profusely.

“Never mind,” she says shyly and tries to move away.

Instead, I grab her by the wrist and pull her back to me, whispering in her ear, “I wanna hear you say it, Yazmine. You are now officially my mate, carrying my child. You will become immortal when you give birth, and you’ll be stuck with me for the rest of your life. I don’t want you to be shy around me.”

“I-I’m not shy,” she gulps, shuddering against me. When her rear brushes my thighs, the sensation coils up between my thighs. “... I just don’t want to spoil dinner,” she relents.

I chuckle at her ear, taking pleasure in how the fine hairs on her nape prickle with attention.

“You are the main course…” I drawl. When her chest rises from a gasp, I slide my hands beneath her arms and cup her breasts, giving a gentle but firm squeeze.

Through the thick material of the sweater, her nipples perk up. Slowly coasting my thumbs across the distended nubs, Yazmine’s staggered intake of breath has me aroused.

It’s incredible how hungry I am for her. All the time. I know I’ll never grow tired of this—wanting her. Needing to fill her up and become one with her.

“Aragon…” she breathes, reaching back and cups my nape. With her head tilted to one side, I can nibble on her ear as I walk her toward the closest tree.

Deftly spinning her around to face me, I’m stunned for a moment. In her most natural state, Yazmine is the most beautiful creature I’ve laid eyes on in a thousand years. There’s no doubt about it. She stands above the rest, and I know I should be thanking my lucky stars for having her by my side.

Even if we’re not fated mates, fate played a hand in our meeting. It’s why the gentle whispers of the scent of her flesh disarm me, making it almost impossible to think straight.

I’m brought back to memories of Seattle when we watched my brother and his mate take their vows. I can’t give her much, except dropping to my knee in that instant. Her breath hitches in her throat when I take her hand and she realizes what I’m about to do.

“Yazmine Hendricks…” I begin slowly, watching the way her eyes fill with tears. I know how deep this is cutting through her. After all, her parents met because of work, had a beautiful marriage, and had an even more beautiful daughter before they died.

Here we are, Yazmine and I, having met because of the remains she wasn’t supposed to find. In hindsight, if I hadn’t discovered that she was a paleontologist who’d discovered dragon bones, I might never have gone through with taking her as my mate during Draco’s wedding.

I wouldn’t have learned so much about her the way I did while she worked on the bones. I wouldn’t have realized how wrong I’d been about humans.

I wouldn’t have fallen madly in love.

“I didn’t plan for this,” I admit nervously, stroking her knuckles with my thumbs. “Marriage isn’t important for dragon shifters who will spend their immortal lives together. But it’s important for a human.”

“Aragon, it’s not—”

I shake my head to stop her from going on. I know what she’s going to say—that it doesn’t matter. That she’ll gladly live life just the way it is. On the other hand, I want to give her everything she deserves.

Perhaps I’m also a bit selfish, wondering what she’d look like in a white dress.

“I know it’s not important, but it is for me,” I admit. “I want everyone in our clan to witness the marriage of a dragon shifter and a human. So, will you marry me?”

Yazmine purses her lips in contemplation. “Does that mean we’ll have the wedding here?”

“Yes,” I nod.

“Then I’ll marry you,” she concedes before biting her bottom lip.

The immense excitement that rushes through me has me throwing my arms around her waist and holding her tightly. She pulled my head to her, and the warm embrace was the most intimate thing I’d ever experienced.
