But fuck.

She could make a pious man sin.

Grecia settles in a chair that one of Heinrich’s bodyguards has set out for her. Then the other guard enters with a cello. I’ve never known her to be musical, or creative in any way for that matter, so this is a surprise.

It’s then I realize I don’t know much about her. I’ve never made the effort to learn about who she is. I watch as she gets comfortable. Her legs are spread open with the large instrument between her thighs—just where I’d like to be. The wayward thought comes to me suddenly, but I shake it off and refocus on her.

She starts to play. Slowly the melody builds, and I recognize the song as ‘End of All Days’ by Thirty Seconds to Mars. No one moves. No one speaks. I can tell they’re all in awe of her beauty, of the way her body moves as she gets lost in the music. Her hands and fingers capture my attention, and I can’t tear my eyes away.

I’m no longer looking for danger. I’m not even concerned about where Heinrich is. All I see is her. She closes her eyes, her mouth forming silent words as she sings along to the tune, and I find myself doing the same.

Her lips hypnotize me with their movements, her body captures my attention with its gentle sway, and her hands keep me entranced as they fly over the strings.

She’s nothing short of poetic.

When the song comes to an end, she opens her eyes, and they land on me immediately. Those hazel orbs are filled with more than just affection; they’re filled with a desire so hot it scorches me as I stand there, hidden from the view of everyone else.

I allow the corner of my mouth to tilt into a small grin and give her a quick nod of encouragement.

Good girl.

The applause that fills the room tells me she’s done well. The men are all smiling, and Heinrich is completely enamored with her as he takes her hand and places a kiss on her knuckles, thanking her for the performance. It’s a small gesture that has my blood boiling. I don’t want him near her, but if I’m being honest, I don’t want anyone near her.

“You were spectacular,” Heinrich tells Grecia as he leads her toward me. “Your girl is perfection, Tarian. You have great taste in women.”

His eyes sparkle with intent. He’s testing me to see if I deny she’s mine.

“Thank you, she is wonderful,” I answer with a smile and shake his hand.

I can feel Grecia’s burning gaze on me the whole time.

“I hope you didn’t expect the worst of me and my fellow members here. My faction of the Sovereign is nothing like the others. I enjoy the entertainment of a beautiful woman, but since she’s yours, I’d never ask for anything more from her than to play me a song or two.”

I’m not sure I believe what he says, but I offer him a curt nod before pulling Grecia to me. Her body fits against mine perfectly, and I pray she can’t feel my hard on. Her tension eases when I drape my arm over her shoulders. She doesn’t say a word to deny she’s mine, and I’m thankful for that.

“Here’s the folder with all the information you require,” Heinrich tells me, offering me the folder Grecia found lying on his desk earlier. “Everything I have in relation to the Calverts is in there. Including information about your mother and father.”

I don’t know how to respond to that, so I nod my thanks.

“Thank you for allowing me to play,” Grecia says graciously.

“We have to go,” I tell Heinrich before he can respond to her.

I need to get her out of here before he comes up with more duties for her to fulfill.

“I was hoping you’d stay for the initiation of our two newest members,” Heinrich replies, and I can hear the disappointment in his voice.

“I would love to, but we need to get to the airstrip. I’d like to be back in Tynewood by tomorrow.” It’s a lie, I don’t intend to go home yet, but I don’t feel as if we’re completely safe here anymore.

“No problem,” Heinrich agrees. “You’re both welcome to visit any time. I’ll have my men walk you out. Please, don’t be a stranger.”

I nod once more and tug Grecia behind me as we leave the darkness of the circular crypt. We make our way up the old concrete steps and leave through the wooden door that leads out to the parking lot.

Once we’re settled in the back seat of the car, the driver pulls away, and I turn my attention to Grecia.

“What the fuck was that?”
