“What would your mother think, Felix?” I scold.

She’s a beautiful, kindhearted woman who has treated me like an actual human the few times I met her.

“She’s on a gals’ trip.” He winks, and I frown at him. “So long as she doesn’t find out, she can’t be affected.”

Felix’s nonchalance to the adultery is appalling, but I shake my head, not wanting to fight a battle that isn’t mine.

“I should really—”

“I’ll be quick.”

He leans forward, planting his lips on my collarbone and trailing to my earlobe. I sigh, my body easily giving into the comforts he offers. I favor him for the touch of his rough, callused hands—a delicious contrast to the rest of his silky skin.

Felix spins me around, hiking my skirt up and parting my legs. I shiver.

“Cold, darling?” he whispers in my ear. “Aren’t you a lucky girl. I can warm you up tonight. Just say the word.”

After a beat passes, I nod and set the lamp on an empty shelf, giving in to his request. I’m sure I’m not the only one Felix explores—he’s handsome, young, and charming—but I don’t care. I’m hungry for these small moments that make me feel alive. And luckily, Char makes the lady quarterly protection tonics for her escapades, and she always sneaks an extra one for me. The last thing I’d want in my current situation is pregnancy or a disease. The tonic also keeps me from menstruating, which is a blessing on its own.

After a few minutes of prodding and poking between my legs, Felix presses his bare erection against my slit. I’m barely wet yet, and the rushed foreplay certainly doesn’t help matters much.

“Ouch,” I cry out, wincing as he jams himself deeper.

I bite the inside of my cheek to keep from crying out. My arse smarts, still raw and tender.

“I’m sorry. Am I hurting you?” It doesn’t stop him from holding me still and pushing deeper into me.

I sigh, shutting my eyes. “I’m fine. It’s just—I wasn’t ready.”

“I’m sorry,” he repeats.

When he kisses my temple, I relax into his touch. I’m able to access my clit, rubbing it to summon my natural lubrication. It helps, and he’s able to pick up his pace, sliding in and out with more ease. I grip the wine rack in front of me with one hand, holding on for stability, while my other continues to work myself closer to climax.

It’s nearly impossible to lose myself to the pleasure with how bad my wounds ache from the lord’s whipping. Felix won’t be able to see the marks in the dim lighting, which is fine because I don’t care to discuss them.

Less than a minute later, and before I have time to achieve my own pleasure, Felix groans as he pulls out, spilling on the floor.

He chuckles in my ear. “I told you I’d be quick, darling.”

“Yeah,” I mumble, fixing my dress. “Char is waiting for me, so…”

“That was delightful.” Felix watches me like a contented cat. “I really needed that tonight. Thank you.”

“Sure.” Despite the chill in the cellar, my hands grow clammy as I snatch the lamp from the shelf.

“Was it good for you, too?” he asks.

“Yes,” I lie, refusing to look at him.

Well, it’s a half-lie. The distraction was good, and the sex wasn’t bad. I love his warm skin against my own. But something tells me if it were truly satisfying, I wouldn’t care about returning to my tasks upstairs.

“Wait for me tonight. We can go again.” He kisses my temple before darting up the stairs, tucking himself back in at the same time.

My shoulders slump as the loneliness settles back in. I’d rather Felix’s company than none at all.

Raising the lamp, I scan the legible wine labels. It takes me more than a few minutes of wiping the filth off labels to locate the dessert wine. Coughing at the small plume of dust I’ve summoned, I snag the bottle. With the oil lamp in my other hand, I trudge back up the stairs.

Char stands with her hip popped, arms crossed, and lips tight with displeasure.
