Gina suddenly flinched and shook her head, then returned to her work. She didn’t look at Liam again, a sure sign she was trying too hard to avoid him.

To my surprise, Liam didn’t come straight back to our table. He detoured by the bar and chatted with Gina. Her face lit up before she schooled her features into a neutral, friendly expression. They talked for a few and shook hands.

As soon as he came back, I pounced. “Okay, what was that all about?”

He shrugged, leaning on the table. “Just burying the hatchet. What you said made me think that there should be some truce, at least for the wedding. I mean, I’m the best man, she’s the maid of honor.” He took a sip of his beer. “It just seemed like the right thing to do.”

“We’re here!” Avery sang as she sashayed in the door, Derek on her heels.

I stood up to return her exuberant hug, then embraced my brother. Gina rushed over to get their drink orders, and I surveyed my friends, knowing I would miss them. Yeah, I was really looking forward to moving to Marquette, but leaving these wonderful people would be extremely difficult.

As if he knew what I was thinking, Greg stroked my shoulder with his large hand then gave me a squeeze. I looked up to meet his warm gaze and soft smile. There was no doubt in my mind that I was making the right decision. This man was worth it.

And so was I.
