Squeezing her a little more, I kiss the top of her head and say, “No worries, I don’t want to take over your apartment. There’s plenty of space here and I’ll pack efficiently for my drawer.”

Sam laughs and stretches up, kissing my cheek. “That sounds like a plan.”

“Should we at least get your post-mudding change of clothes out of there along with things for you to use in the shower?”

She gives a determined nod. “Yes, please. Then when people aren’t waiting, I can empty the rest of this thing and it can stop making me overthink everything.”

I interrupt her path to the bag in question with a kiss. “There’s nothing you have to overthink with me. I’m here for it all.”

Her eyes get a little shine in them once more and she opens her mouth like she’s going to say something. But instead of any words coming out, her arms wrap around my neck and she kisses me hard.

Unfortunately, that’s when Courtney enters the house. We didn’t close the door to my room, so we hear her and Avery scream and Jax’s low chuckle. Right on cue, Sam pulls away and looks around for a moment, likely figuring out the most efficient way to get what she needs out of the giant bag. I lean around her and unzip the top to help her get started, kissing her cheek, and she smiles while pulling out the neatly rolled clothes at the top and a smaller bag.

“Should I take that to the bathroom?” I ask as she pulls out a few small bottles.

“Yes please.”

“You can lay your clothes out for tonight on the bed if you’d like,” I call over my shoulder as I put her supplies in the shower. When I leave the bathroom, I see a neat pile of clothes laid out on the corner of my bed. My heart gives an extra beat or two thinking that it might one day be our bed. But will she want to move here? That’s a hell of a lot to ask of someone, especially an only child who grew up in the city. Instead of panicking, I realize that I’d be happy for us to get a place in Greenstone if that’s what she wanted.

I watch Sam turn to look at me, brushing invisible dirt off her thighs.

“Okay, let’s go get filthy,” she says, walking towards the door as if that’s a phrase that she regularly utters and my jaw drops.

I grab her by the wrist before she gets too far and pin her against the closet.

“What’s wro—”

Her question is cut off by my lips on hers and a rumbling sound starting from deep in my chest. My hands can’t seem to decide if they should be tangled in her hair or roaming her body while her fingers dig into my shoulders as she meets every bit of intensity I have. She lets my knee press between her thighs and makes a little whimpering sound as she lowers herself an inch so she can straddle my leg.

“Tommy and Sam, are you almost ready?” Avery calls up the stairs, effectively throwing a bucket of cold water on me.

I let out a frustrated breath and kiss Sam on the forehead.

“What was that for?” she asks, her lips noticeably swollen.

“Simply you saying that we’re about to get filthy had a few thoughts racing through my head and I might have gone a little caveman on you.” I wince and rub the back of my neck, putting everything together. She was talking about mud. Not getting filthy and naked.

“Oh my goodness, I hadn’t even thought of that,” she says, putting a hand over her mouth.

Way to go, Tommy.

As she watches me, her hand falls away and there’s a sexy smile behind it. “But I’m not opposed to you interpreting it that way.”

Letting out a pained groan, I gesture for her to lead the way down to the others as I mumble, “I have a feeling this is going to be torturous.”

Chapter 47: Sam

They weren’t lying that mud gets everywhere. Between the ATVs, golf carts, and random wrestling fights, everyone is covered in mud. I don't think I’ve ever been this dirty or that I’ve laughed this hard in my life.

Courtney waves me over to where she and Avery are sitting on a cooler, an extra bottle of sparkling water sitting out for me.

“Thanks,” I tell them, a little breathless after being tackled by Tommy just moments ago.

“Does this live up to your expectations?” Avery asks me while the guys start calling out ridiculous rules for some sort of tournament.

“Exceeded them, actually,” I say truthfully.

“Good, then you’ll help balance things out. The guys can turn into complete douches if there isn’t a little estrogen to balance out their testosterone.”
