My very nude waist.

I freeze for one second and, of course, Tommy notices.

“What happened?”

My nose scrunches up and I remind myself that he likes me for who I am and catch any lie I would have fed him to not make things feel weird. “I’m not dressed.”

His eyes dip down and he slowly smiles. “Oh, I noticed.”

“You’re at least under the sheet.”

“The sheet that you abruptly left but are always welcome under,” he says, lifting the sheet with his free hand.

“Won’t your brothers be coming in soon and get suspicious if we’re not downstairs?”

Sighing through his nose while his lips leave feather-light kisses on my shoulder, he relents. “Do you want to shower first or second? And for the record, I’m very open to conserving water but can’t make any promises that I won’t try to have you coming a fourth time this afternoon.”

A shiver zips through my body at the thought of Tommy joining me in a shower. To be able to watch the water run down the panes of his body. “I could go first this time, I suppose.”

We stand up and he detangles himself from the top sheet. Bending over, he grabs his flannel shirt and drapes it over my shoulders. “Your robe,” he says, tossing me a wink.

Padding over to his drawers, Tommy grabs a pair of athletic shorts and I get a fantastic view of his butt. It’s muscled, but soft, just like the rest of him. He catches me checking him out and drops the shirt he had picked up back into the same drawer before walking up to me and tugging me close by the collar of his shirt.

“You better be careful, because I could get very used to seeing you like this,” he says. He gives me an open-mouthed kiss, causing butterflies to consume me. “Let’s get you clean.”

Sighing, I know that he’s right. Peeking at the clock, I note that we’ve been inside for about an hour, so we couldn’t have slept for very long.

Boy, I must have been out like a light to have left a little puddle of drool on him so quickly.

As my toes step onto the tiles of his bathroom, I brace for the chill that will hit. But instead, the floors are heated to my absolute delight. Unlike the first time I peeked in here, I take a better look at the bathroom. Everything is tidy, as I’ve come to expect from Tommy, and it’s finished in light gray tones with black accents. The shower is huge with several wall-mounted sprayers, one hand-held sprayer, and what looks like a rain head on the ceiling.

“You did this?” I ask, gesturing to the shower.

He nods. “With a little help, but yeah. We take our sore bodies very seriously here and since we have a few soaking tubs with jets in the house, I decided to go with one hell of a shower system.”

“It looks heavenly.”

“I hope you feel the same when you’re clean.”

Tommy walks me through the dials and settings and the shower is filled with steam by the time he sets out a towel for me and gives me one more kiss before leaving and shutting the door behind him. Part of me is curious if there might be signs of overnight guests, but I shake my head at the notion. My mind goes back to his notes about it being a long time for him since he had been with anyone. Anyone remodeling their bathroom wouldn’t likely keep souvenirs of bygone lovers.

As I remove his shirt, my nose scrunches up at the thought of anyone who might have broken his heart. I fold it a little more aggressively than is necessary because someone has hurt him. It’s not like I’m naive enough to think that relationships are puppies and roses, even the ones that end, but it feels like someone really did a number on him.

Someone hurt Tommy.

The man has flaws, I’m sure of that. No one is perfect. But who the hell would do that and why?

I step into the shower and let the water wash away some of my agitation. Fiddling with a few settings, the wall sprayers soon massage my back as I use Tommy’s shampoo/conditioner combo. Reading the instructions, I try to figure out if I’m supposed to leave it in like conditioner or wash it out sooner like shampoo. I settle on rinsing it sooner, knowing that I’m likely going to put a ponytail back in once it’s semi-dry anyways. The body wash has a little spice scent to it but mostly smells of the outdoors and I like it.

Trying to not use up all the hot water, I quickly finish rinsing and manage to shut off the water coming from the various nozzles fairly efficiently. Once I’m out of the shower and dry, I detangle my hair with my fingers the best I can and use some of Tommy’s lotion.

Hmm, I didn’t bring my change of clothes into the bathroom with me. I suppose he’s seen everything already, but I wrap the surprisingly soft towel around myself before opening the door.

Tommy is lying on the bed still only wearing that pair of shorts, one ankle crossed over the other with a paperback in one hand while the other is tucked behind his head. He looks over at me with a slow smile as his eyes take in my appearance and sets the book on the nightstand.

“Another sight I could get used to.”

I blush at his words but feel emboldened by them. “I could say the same about you.”
